James Albert Batten, born Feb. 3, 1944, son of Henry E. Batten and L. Lucile Haveron of Bryan, TX, went to be with the Lord on the evening of Jan. 29, 2011at the age of 66. He was a loving husband, father, Vietnam veteran, accomplished salesman and business owner. James entered the United States Army in 1974 and served in the CSC 1st Bn. 32nd Armor as a combat engineer and rose to the rank of SSG by the time of his Honorable Discharge in 1976. James Albert Batten, born Feb. 3, 1944, son of Henry E. Batten and L. Lucile Haveron of Bryan, TX, went to be with the Lord on the evening of Jan. 29, 2011at the age of 66. He was a loving husband, father, Vietnam veteran, accomplished salesman and business owner. James entered the United States Army in 1974 and served in the CSC 1st Bn. 32nd Armor as a combat engineer and rose to the rank of SSG by the time of his Honorable Discharge in 1976. While serving our country in Vietnam he was responsible for helping erect air fields and landing strips for incoming troops. He also served in Germany with the Big Red One. After his discharge he went to the oil fields in Alaska. Soon after his return he became a car and mobile home salesman, eventually starting his own mobile home sales business. James is survived by his wife and lifelong companion of 45 years, Linda L. Burchfield of New Braunfels, TX; his mother and father-in- law Ola Mae and Addie G Parker, 2 daughters Tina and Tammy; 2 brothers Wayne and "Bully", and a sister Martha. He is also survived by 4 grandchildren: AJ Batten, Jennifer Kyrish with husband Wesley, Ashlee Melancon with husband Chris, and Chance Woods; 4 great grandchildren: Alexis, Nicolas, Mae-Lynn and Hailey and one great grandchild on the way; nieces: Christy, Debra and Sharon; and nephews: Doug, Ross, Ken Jr., Howard Wayne, Jason and Timothy; a sister-in-law Carol Schroth and many other loved ones. He is preceded in death by his parents, a sister Barbara Dobbs and a brother Billy Batten. A visitation will be held Wed. Feb 2 from 10 am until time of service at 1pm in Goetz Memorial Chapel. Interment will follow at Guadalupe Valley Memorial Park with military honors. Pallbearers will be James Baker, Gary Woods, Chance Woods, Chris Melancon, Wesley Kyrish and Jason Schroth. Honorary Pallbearers will include Bully Batten, Wayne Batten, and AG Parker. Please visit our online register book at www.goetzfuneral.com.
