James Marvin Beach, Sr. "Beachy", 75, a resident of the Tenth Legion community of Broadway, died at 5:27 Saturday evening, June 4, 2011, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital. He had not enjoyed good health for the last several weeks.

A son of the late Joseph and Minnie Sites Beach, he was born on May 5, 1936 in Harrisonburg and had lived in the Tenth Legion area for 29 years. Mr. Beach had worked for R.S. Monger & Sons and for James Madison University for 28 years prior to his retirement in 2004. After his retirement, he continued to work at JMU until his death.

He is survived by his wife, Janet Beach of 48 years; six children, James M Beach, Jr. and his wife, Priscilla, of Dayton; Tammy Burrell and her husband, James of Fulks Run; Debbie Salas of Harrisonburg; William Joe Beach and his wife, Becky of Mt. Clinton; Lisa Williams of Harrisonburg and Calvin Ray Beach of Penn Laird; eleven grandchildren, including Robin Beach who was raised in his home; seven great-grandchildren; a number of nieces and nephews and his cats Simba and Micky .

The family will receive friends from 7:00 until 8:00 Wednesday evening at the Lindsey Harrisonburg Funeral Home.

A graveside service will be held at eleven o'clock Thursday morning, June 9, 2011, at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Clarence Moyers officiating.

To the Beach family: We send our thoughts and prayers during this time of loss. I enjoyed getting to know Jim when I had my cattle at Bob's. He was a good man, a good friend, and taught me alot. I am thankful that I had the opportunity to know him. May God give you peace and comfort.
