James Earl Boyd passed away on April 25, 2011 at the age of 74. He was born in Sylvester, Texas on April 21, 1937 to Ross Ira and Alvie Boyd. James grew up in Hamlin, Texas and graduated from Hamlin High School. James attended McMurry University in Abilene, Texas on a football scholarship and graduated in 1959. James was elected "Chief McMurry" at homecoming in 1958. James was a past-President of the McMurry Alumni Association. At McMurry University, James met his wife of 52 years, Hollis Rae Haynes Boyd. James Earl Boyd passed away on April 25, 2011 at the age of 74. He was born in Sylvester, Texas on April 21, 1937 to Ross Ira and Alvie Boyd. James grew up in Hamlin, Texas and graduated from Hamlin High School. James attended McMurry University in Abilene, Texas on a football scholarship and graduated in 1959. James was elected "Chief McMurry" at homecoming in 1958. James was a past-President of the McMurry Alumni Association. At McMurry University, James met his wife of 52 years, Hollis Rae Haynes Boyd.
James and Hollis lived in Amarillo and the Houston area before moving to Forth Worth, where they lived for over 30 years, raising their two children Stephen James Boyd and Holly Boyd Wardell. James was the Director of Securities Training for Leonard's Training Programs in Arlington, Texas. He was a Chartered Life Underwriter and member of the National Association of Securities Dealers. James was an active volunteer and supporter of the Birdville Association for Retarded Citizens, Special Olympics, and Expanco, a sheltered workshop for adults with disabilities in Forth Worth. In 1999, James retired and moved to Cedar Park, Texas. James was a member of the Bethany United Methodist Church.
James Boyd is survived by his wife, Hollis Rae Haynes Boyd; his son, Stephen James Boyd; his daughter, Holly Boyd Wardell; his son-in-law, David Wardell; two grand-daughters, Brooke and Brynne Wardell, all of Cedar Park; and his brother and sister-in-law, Durwood and Precilla Boyd of Corpus Christi, Texas. His sister, Lorene Wilson of Fairfield, Texas also passed away on April 25, 2011. He was preceded in death by his mother, Alvie Gann Boyd; his father, Ross Ira Boyd; his brothers Lilburn, R.A., Raymond, and Johnny Joe Boyd; and his sister, Frances Montgomery.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m on Saturday, April 30, 2011 at Bethany United Methodist Church, 10010 Anderson Mill Road, Austin Texas, 78750. Memorial contributions may be sent to the Special Needs Ministry of Bethany UMC.
