BRICKNELL, James Gordon "Jim"
(Retired Superintendent of the Town of Pickering Parks & Recreation)
Passed away peacefully with family by his side after a brief illness with Cancer at the Ross Memorial Hospital on Thursday, August 21st, 2014
in his 68th year. Beloved husband of Diane. Loving father of Jay, Darryl and Colin. Father-in-law of Joelle, Camilla and Melanie. Cherished grandfather of Indya, Sienna, Ryan, Jack and Talin. Dear brother of George (Dorothy), late John and survived by his sister-in-law Mary. Sadly missed by all his nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Jim will be remembered for his 40 years involvement with the Newfoundland Dog Club of Canada. He later pursued his Judging License and judged in nine different Countries, for twelve different Newfoundland dog specialties, Judged 1- Sporting Group, Group 3, Working Group, Group 7 – Herding Group. Jim spent many years coaching, managing and scouting players at many different levels, including seventeen years with the OHL. Visitation will be held at the OSHAWA FUNERAL HOME, 847 King Street West, (905-721-1234) on Tuesday, August 26th, from 2:00 p.m. until time of Memorial Service in the Chapel at 3:00 p.m. Donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society .

Mr. Bricknell was a coach for me late in hockey and had a huge impact on both myself and my family. I was lucky to get a tryout with a sr/jr team (Pickering Panthers b/c of him) had no chance, but he gave me some confidence that was priceless at 15 yrs old that I'll never forget.
Loved the man and think about him often.
