James O. Butler was born December 15, 1924 in Carroll County, TN to Guy and Clara Dell Butler.
He grew up in Bemis, TN and was a graduate of J.B. Young High School and West TN Business College. In 1942, he joined the U.S Navy and served in the Pacific with the SeaBees until 1945. He was married to Ruby Evelyn Stewart for 64 years until her death in 2009. For most of his career, he worked for, managed and was a partner in the Wells & Lassiter Dairy in the Madison Hall Community of Jackson, where he and his family also lived. He is survived by daughter, Linda Butler of Martin, TN; son, Phillip Butler of Jackson; three grandchildren, Oliver, Michael and Nathaniel; one great granddaughter, Khloe Madison Butler.
A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, August 8, 2011 at 7 p.m. in the South Chapel of George A. Smith and Sons with visitation from 5:30 p.m. until service time at 7 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital .
