Obituary

James W. Childrey, 92, was received into the loving arms of angels on Friday, March 15, 2013. He was a native of South Boston and a resident of Hampton. James was a Navy veteran. He worked as a welder in the Newport News Shipyard and retired in 1980 after 27 years of service. He was a member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church, and enjoyed hunting and fishing. James was preceded in death by his parents, James and Ann Childrey; step-mom, Bessie Childrey; his loving wife, Mary Childrey; brother, Elvin Lee Childrey; and sisters, Naomi Young and Danese Talbott. James W. Childrey, 92, was received into the loving arms of angels on Friday, March 15, 2013. He was a native of South Boston and a resident of Hampton.

James was a Navy veteran. He worked as a welder in the Newport News Shipyard and retired in 1980 after 27 years of service. He was a member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church, and enjoyed hunting and fishing.

James was preceded in death by his parents, James and Ann Childrey; step-mom, Bessie Childrey; his loving wife, Mary Childrey; brother, Elvin Lee Childrey; and sisters, Naomi Young and Danese Talbott. He is survived by his daughters, Jeanne Goff of Texas, and Nancy Dail of Newport News; grandchildren, Jennifer Clark, Robert Goff, and A.J. Goff all of Texas, and Cindi and Michael Burton of Yorktown; great-grandchildren, Austin Shriver, Madeline Goff, Dallas Goff, and Peyton and Preston Goff of Texas, Ashleigh, Kaylee, and Rylie Burton of Yorktown; brothers, Enzie (Marylou) and Archie (Faye); sisters, Lois Buchanan, Bernice Lowery (Jessie), Linda Wilmouth (Bobby); brother-in-law, W.C. Talbott; and sister-in-law, Avis Childrey.

The family thanks caregivers Steve and Virginia for their support during James' sickness.

A celebration of James' life will be held at 11 am on Wednesday, March 20, 2013 at Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 151 Wythe Parkway, Hampton, with Pastor Cook officiating.
