"Jim"

Mr. Cochell, age 58, of Charlotte, NC, passed away unexpectedly after a brief illness.

Jim was born on October 12, 1955, in St. Joseph, Missouri, the son of Mary Elizabeth Greene Cochell and the late Donald Edward Cochell, Jr.

Jim married Sandra Rochelle Yarbrough on June 10, 1995, in Lexington, NC.

He graduated in May 1977 from the University of Missouri with a Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Economics. He went on to earn a Master of Science degree in Agricultural Economics with a minor in Statistics from North Carolina State University in 1981. He was a member of the FarmHouse Fraternity.

After earning his Master's degree, Jim began his career in 1981 as an economist with Duke Power in Charlotte, NC, and worked for Duke Energy for over 32 years. He co-authored economics papers for publication in the Journal of Regulatory Economics.

Jim played rugby as a young adult with the Charlotte Olde Originals (Charlotte Rugby Football Club).

Jim is survived by his wife, Sandra and their four children, James Edward Cochell, Jr. (Eddie), Abigail Marie Cochell (Abbie), Kenneth Cooper Cochell, and Lillian Mae Cochell (Lily Mae).

In addition to his mother, other survivors include a brother, William S. Cochell (Bill) and wife Jeannie E., of Phoenix, Arizona. Jim was preceded in death by his brother, Kenneth Greene Cochell.

Jim was a loving and devoted husband and father. He was a youth league soccer coach and as an Eagle Scout, he was more than happy to be a Cub Scout leader. He enjoyed attending his children's swim meets, soccer games, gymnastic meets, dance recitals and school activities.

Jim and his family always enjoyed their vacations, whether to the beach, visiting family, or an extended road trip west to Wyoming, Montana, and Mount Rushmore. He was an integral part of the typical evening at the Cochell household which included, after homework was completed, of course, board games, movies, and video games.

A service to celebrate the life of Jim Cochell will be held on Sunday, May 18, 2014 at 3:00 PM at Sharon Presbyterian Church. Dr. Robert J. Blumer and Reverend Ron E. Nelson will officiate. The family will receive friends at the church following the service in the Charles Little Activity Building.
