Westlake - James "Jim" Compton
a resident of Westlake since 1954, passed away September 11, 2010. Mr. Compton was born February 13, 1928 in Elmira, New York. He graduated from Horseheads High School in Horseheads, NY. Jim joined the Air Force in 1948 and was honorably discharged in 1952. After his discharge he returned to New York accompanied by his wife and daughter. He quickly decided that southern living beat the daylights out of shoveling snow so they returned home. He went to work for Cities Service Oil Co. (CITGO) in 1954 and retired in 1990.Jim was a member of Westlake UMC, the Office and Professional Employees International Union 87 where he had served as Business Agent and President, the American Legion Post 370 and the Calcasieu Bowling Association. While working shift work, he attended McNeese and only needed 14 credits to earn his Bachelors Degree. Jim was preceded in death by his grandson, Stephen Freyou, his sister and parents. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Ernestine (Miss Ernie) his three children; Priscilla Freyou and husband Daryl, Lynn Caruana and husband Bill, James (Jimmy) Compton and wife DeNessel, special friends Derwin and Penny Ward; six grandchildren Sean, Amy, James, Sadi, Taylor and Aaron, ten great-grandchildren and other family members and friends. Pallbearers will be James T. Compton, Sean Freyou, Matt Rawson, Bill Caruana, Daryl Freyou and Taylor Caruana. Honorary pallbearers are Derwin Ward and Aaron Caruana. Funeral services will be held in the Chapel of Hixson Funeral Home of Westlake at 1:00 on Tuesday September 14, 2010 with Rev. Betty Northern officiating. Burial will be in Westlake Memorial Park. Visitation will be held on Monday from 5:00 until 9:00 P.M. and on Tuesday from 8:00 A.M. until time of service. Words of comfort may be shared with the family at www.hixsonfuneralhomes.com
