James Cowan passed away quietly at his home in Fruita, CO; he was 73.
James was born in Marshalltown, IA, to Wallace and Lavina (Dodd) Cowan on February 28, 1940. He attended Business School in Lincoln, NE. He was enlisted in the US Air Force from 1957 to 1963 as an air policeman.
In 1986, he married his wife, Carol, in Minturn, CO. They have been residents of Fruita for 27 years.
He retired from IIG-Johnmansville in 2006. Since then James held jobs as a PT security guard, military training, auto repair, woodworker, and vehicle maintenance.
James was a member of the VFW in Lincoln, ME, and president of the Lions Club in Minturn, CO. He enjoyed RVing, fishing, camping, and boating.
He is survived by his wife, Carol, Fruita, CO; his mother, Peggy Dykes, Eldora, IA; his sons: Jack, Scott, Tony, Rod, Andrew, and John, all of the Grand Valley in Colorado; his daughters-in-law: Tina, Jayme, Daisy, Sharon, and Cynthia, all of the Grand Valley; his sister, Judy Mitchell, Eldora, IA; 14 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
A Visitation on March 20, 2013 at 9:00am at Martin Mortuary. Funeral Service to follow the visitation at 10:00am, then a Graveside Service at 1:00pm at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Grand Junction.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Martin Mortuary. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Hospice & Palliative Care of Western Colorado, 2754 Compass Drive, Suite 377, Grand Junction, CO 81506.
