James Meredith Dean, 91, of Clifton, formerly of Waco, met his Lord and Savior on Monday, March 17, 2014. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 20 at Park Lake Drive Baptist Church in Waco. Visitation will precede the service at 10:00 a.m. Dr. Jerry Smith of Clifton will officiate. Burial will follow the service at Rosemound Cemetery. James was born on May 30, 1922 in Waco. Orphaned at an early age his maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. G. S. Spivey, raised him. James and Doris Higgins were married on September 3, 1942 at the Clay Ave. Methodist Church in Waco. They were married for 71 years. James enlisted in the Army of the United States in October of 1942 serving as an airplane and engine mechanic. After completing his military service in October of 1945 he returned to Waco and began work at William Cameron & Co. where he was a mill worker. He retired in April of 1985. Shortly after his retirement he began work at Hillcrest Baptist Hospital where he was employed part time for 15 years. James and Doris were members of Park Lake Drive Baptist Church in Waco where he served as a deacon and in other capacities. They were also members of Highland Baptist Church for many years prior to Park Lake Drive Baptist Church. They made lifelong friends at both churches with whom they enjoyed traveling, playing 42 and eating out together most weekends. James was a faithful servant of the Lord and never hesitated to talk about Jesus to those he met. He loved people and never met a stranger. He could strike up a conversation with anyone. His smile and gentle spirit never faltered. He could brighten anyone's day with his jokes, magic tricks and other antics. James had a great capacity to love unconditionally. He was the best husband and Daddy and his wife and children were blessed have had him in their lives. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren loved their Papaw and were fortunate to have been able to share so many years with him. He always had a trick up his sleeve for all of them. James was preceded in death by his grandparents, his parents, Gerthie May Spivey and Jim Dean, and sister, Mary Frances Davis.

He is survived by his wife Doris Dean of Clifton, son Larry Meredith Dean and wife Mary of China Spring, daughter Diana McCleary and husband Bill of Clifton; grandchildren, Kristel Pressley and husband Trent of LaVernia, Kyle Phillips and wife Julie of Clifton, April McAdams and husband Corey, Marissa Davenport and husband Tim all of China Spring. His great grandchildren are Meredith Barnes, Jackson and Griffin Phillips and Braden Pressley.

Pallbearers are James Burroughs, Charlie Williams, Kyle Phillips, Trent Pressley, Corey McAdams and Tim Davenport.

There are no words to express the family's appreciation to the nursing staff of Clifton Care and Rehabilitation in Clifton, Texas. They loved James and his wife, laughed and cried with them and prayed with and for them. Our appreciation is also extended to Girling Hospice for their care and concern during these last few.
