Coach Dickey said something that has stuck with me:
"You only get one opportunity"!
Because of that statement, I´ve learned to make the best of every opportunity. Rest in Peace Coach!

My husband, Howard Evans, coached with Jimmy at C. E. King High School in the early 60's. This was Howard's first coaching job and he always remembered this time with Jimmy and always followed his career. So sorry to hear of his passing. Rest in peace Jimmy.

I WAS AT K-STATE IN 1977 WHEN COACH DICKEY ARRIVED,WE HAD ENDURED ANOTHER 1-WIN SEASON AND MY HOPES OF NFL CAREER WAS SHATTERED BY AN KNEE INJURY. THE PRIOR HEAD COACH HAD BEEN FIRED AND I WAS LACKING 18HRS TO GRADUATE. I NEED TO BE ABLE TO GET ANOTHER YEAR OF SCHOLARSHIP. THE COACH HANDLING THE GRADE ASSISTANT PROGRAM TOLD ME TO GO IN AND TALK TO COACH DICKEY AND ASK HIM IF HE WOULD EXTEND MY SCHOLARSHIP FOR A 5TH YR. I WENT IN AND IMMEDIATELY COACH DICKEY WELCOMED ME, IN LIKE I WAS ONE HIS ON,IT DIDN'T HURT THAT I WAS FROM THE HOUSTON AREA ALSO. I EXPLAINED MY SITUATION AND HE PUT ON SCHOLARSHIP AS A GA HANDLING THE STUDY HALL FOR ALL THE FRESHMAN ATHELTES COMING. I THANK GOD FOR COACH DICKEY BECAUSE OF HIS GENEROUSITY AND KINDNESS,I GRADUATE IN 1979 WITH MY BS. MY CONDOLENCES GO OUT TO HIS FAMILY.. KEITH NELMS 79'

So sorry to hear that Coach Dickey has passed. In my first head football position, he was so kind to me and gave me such sage advice that any young coach would appreciate. I'm sure he and my father are already catching up on old times and even drawing up some X's and O's. RIP Coach.

I was fortunate that Coach Dickey gave me the opportunity to work for him at K-State. His one-liners and stories will be remembered by all who knew him. His compassion and honesty endeared him to his players and staff.Besides being a coach, he taught life lessons to his players. Blessings to the Dickey Family.

Coach Dickey was a great guy. As a walk on at K-State he treated me the same as everyone else. He gave me every opportunity to participate in the football program. I'm very sad to hear of his passing. Our thoughts and prayers are with the entire Dickey Family.
