Retired Master Seargent James R. Elrod, Aircraft Firefighting and Rescue Specialist in the United States Marine Corp., passed away Saturday, February 1, 2014 at Baton Rouge General Bluebonnet at 6:10 pm at the age of 72. He was a native of Tuscaloosa, Alabama and a resident of Gonzales, La. He is survived by his wife Carolyn Kaigler Elrod of Gonzales, 1 daughter and son-in-law: Amy Elrod Creel and Wayne Creel of Baton Rouge, 1 son: James D. Elrod of Salt Lake City, Utah, 1 sister: Barbara Cox of Northport, Alabama, 2 brothers: Frank Jackson and Charles Jackson both of Alabama, 2 grandchildren: Sean Patrick Creel and Kelsey Elise Creel of Baton Rouge, his mother-in-law: Ms. Elsie Kaigler of Gonzales, 4 sisters-in-law, 3 brothers-in-law, numerous nieces and nephews and Sammie Elrod, his faithful Shihtzu. He is preceded in death by his mother: Bertha Anderson Allen, father: Ulmer Allen, 1 daughter: Suzy Toler, 1 sister: Gladys Jackson Hulsey. Visitation will be held at Ourso Funeral Home, Gonzales on Wednesday, February 5, 2014, from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm. Visiting will resume on Thursday, February 6, 2014 at Ourso Funeral Home, Gonzales from 8:00 am until religious services at 10:00 am, with burial at 12:30 pm at Port Hudson National Cemetery, Port Hudson, La. He received the National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal and Navy Achievement Medal while serving his country in the United States Marine Corp.
