James E. Forrest (Lt.Col. USAF, Ret.) passed away October 26, 2012. He was born July 15, 1920 in Plains, Georgia and graduated from High School there in 1937. James worked in an accounting office until enlisting in the Army Air Corps in 1942. After a brief period he was accepted in Aviation Cadet training and later commissioned as a bombardier in B-17 aircraft. His service during World War II was spent in combat crew training until his release from active duty in 1945. He returned briefly to his prior accounting position until beginning college at Middle Georgia College and then to the University of Georgia. Prior to graduating, he was recalled in 1951 to active duty as a bombardier in B-29's. James spent several years on combat ready planes which were frequently credited with averting another major war. One final overseas tour was in Vietnam in 1966. He completed a career of 22 years Air Force Service with four years at Maxwell Air Force Base as a squadron commander and retired in 1970. Following Mr. Forrest's military career, he completed degrees in business administration, education and guidance and counseling at Troy State University. He then began a 26 year career with the Department of Industrial Relations and was later promoted to State supervisor of unemployment tax enforcement. He was preceded in death by his wife, Augusta Powell Forrest and his and his son, James E. Forrest, Jr. His survivors include his son, Nathan Powell Forrest, daughter-in-law, Roxanne Forrest, granddaughters, Caitlan E. Forrest, Colleen E. Forrest, and Chloe E.
