James (Jim) Franklin of Webster Township passed in his sleep on May 25, 2012. Jim was born April 1, 1937 in Jackson MI to Herbert and Marie Franklin. He grew up in Napolean MI along side his Mother, Stepfather, Walter Brown who preceded him in death, and younger brother John (Debbie) Brown who survives. He is also survived by his wife of 50 years Roxanne, children Pamela (Ken) Ball, Michael Franklin and Grandchildren, Rachel, Ryan and Leighanne Ball. James (Jim) Franklin of Webster Township passed in his sleep on May 25, 2012. Jim was born April 1, 1937 in Jackson MI to Herbert and Marie Franklin. He grew up in Napolean MI along side his Mother, Stepfather, Walter Brown who preceded him in death, and younger brother John (Debbie) Brown who survives. He is also survived by his wife of 50 years Roxanne, children Pamela (Ken) Ball, Michael Franklin and Grandchildren, Rachel, Ryan and Leighanne Ball. Jim was a graduate of Napolean High School and the University of Michigan at Dearborn. Prior to college, he served his country in the US Navy from 1956 to 1962. He was employed, until his reteirement in 1999, as a Mechanical Engineer with the Ford Motor Company where he was awarded several patents and innovation awards during his career. It was his life outside of the office which really defined Jim. His love of history and shooting sports led him to a 30 year membership in the North-South Skirmish Association where he served with distiction as Regional Commander for two terms and was a team member at various time with the 21st Michigan Volunteer Infantry and 14th Tennessee Volunteers. He was a member of the Michigan Chapter of the Destroyer Escort Sailors Association (DESA), Whitmore Lake Rod and Gun Club, Washtenaw Sportsman's Club, Michigan Flyfishing Club and season ticket holder of his beloved Michigan Wolverine Football Team. Jim's activities in his avocations was hampered in recent years, yet he kept up as much as possible. Jim's quiet leadership, skilled hands and caring demeanor will be missed by all who had the priveledge to know him. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Michigan Chapter of DESA c/o Ron Zarem 1310 Rifle Lake Trail, West Branch MI 48661 . Cremation arrangements are being made by Muehlig Funeral Chapel-Dexter. A celebration of Jim's life will be held at a later date.
