JAMES DONALD KILEY, SR. - a resident of Greenwich, Connecticut for many years, passed away on June 20, 2013, after a courageous two-year battle with the effects of esophageal cancer. Born in the Bronx in 1952, the third of six children of Edward A. Kiley, Jr. and Helen (O'Connor) Kiley, Mr. Kiley moved with his family to Fairfield in 1956, before settling in Greenwich in the early 60s. In 1966, Mr. Kiley was graduated from Sacred Heart School in Byram and in 1970 from Saint Mary's High School in Greenwich, where he was a superb student and a star baseball pitcher. Mr. Kiley attended Saint Leo University in Florida on a full basketball scholarship. Saint Leo had an elite program in the then NCAA college division, competing against such powerhouses as Georgetown and Providence and defeating North Texas State and Southwest Missouri. Mr. Kiley was recognized for his athletic and academic excellence by being named an "Academic All-American," an honor bestowed on only a small number of student-athletes. In 1974, Mr. Kiley was graduated Magna Cum Laude, in the top 1% of his class, as a Philosophy major. After college, Mr. Kiley continued his studies, pursuing an M.B.A. at Iona College and studying accounting. For most of Mr. Kiley's professional career, he served as an accountant or accounting director at a number of hospitals in New York and New Jersey. During the last several years of his life, Mr. Kiley served honorably with the Internal Revenue Service on Long Island. Mr. Kiley is survived by his daughter, Jane E. Reilly, a registered nurse (and her husband Keith and their three children) of Shaumong, N.J. and James, Jr. of Jersey City, N.J. He is survived by one sister, Ann Kiley of Meriden and three brothers - Edward (and his wife Mary) of Bel Air, Md.; Francis (and his wife Monica) of Springfield, Va.; and Robert (and his wife Michelle) of West Hartford. Mr. Kiley is predeceased by his parents and by his sister, Ellen Kiley Van Tine, R.N. of Port Chester (and her deceased husband Robert). He is survived by his former wife, Brenda O'Shea Kiley of New Jersey. Mr. Kiley is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

Although a tough competitor in sports, in his personal life, Mr. Kiley was a kind and sincere gentleman. He had a good heart and a generous spirit. Above all, he valued family, faith, and friends.
He fought the good fight, he finished the course, he kept the faith.
