Obituary

James Merle King passed away on Saturday, April 27, 2013 after a long illness. Jim was born in Cedar Bluffs, Kansas to Jim & Mabel King. He grew up in Cedar Bluffs and Oberlin, Kansas. During WWII he joined the U.S. Navy where he achieved the rank of Yeoman 2nd class and during the Korean War he was in the U.S. Army Reserves where he achieved the rank of Captain. A Civil Engineer graduate of the University of Colorado and a Professional Engineer, he was a proud, avid Golden Buffaloes fan. James Merle King passed away on Saturday, April 27, 2013 after a long illness. Jim was born in Cedar Bluffs, Kansas to Jim & Mabel King. He grew up in Cedar Bluffs and Oberlin, Kansas.
During WWII he joined the U.S. Navy where he achieved the rank of Yeoman 2nd class and during the Korean War he was in the U.S. Army Reserves where he achieved the rank of Captain. A Civil Engineer graduate of the University of Colorado and a Professional Engineer, he was a proud, avid Golden Buffaloes fan.
Jim retired in 2007 after many years in commercial construction and starting his own construction company, Concrete Products, where his business built over 600 buildings. Jim also served as past Governor of Southwest Cosmopolitan Federation and was a member of the Professional Engineers Association.
He was adored by his family and his sense of humor was a joy not only to his family and friends, but also to the health care workers and everyone he met along the way. He was a man who would willingly give his opinion on any topic. He will be missed by those who loved him dearly.
Jim is survived Audrey, his beloved wife of 65 years, his daughter, Adele White; brother and sister-in-law, Owen & Sharon King, McCook, NE; grandchildren Kerry Button & her husband William of Wellington, CO; Kyle King of Edmond; Jennifer Renfro & her husband Jason of Yukon; Laura Nelson & her husband Brent of Mustang; Brian White & his wife Sara of Edmond; Scott White & his wife Shannon of Moore; 10 beautiful great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins. He is also survived by former daughter-in-law, Angela King and former son-in-law, David White.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jim & Mabel King; son Stephen; brother Glenn; sisters Thelma, Nadiene, Dixie and precious great granddaughter Grace.
Suggested memorials may be made to The Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation, 230 East Ohio St, Ste 304, Chicago, IL 60611 or The Grace Camden White (stillbirth research) Fund at any Bank of Oklahoma.
Visitation will be Tuesday, April 30th from 4:00-7:00 at Hahn-Cook Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 11:00, Wednesday, May 1st at All Souls Episcopal Church, Oklahoma City, OK.
