Dr. James Alan Larson, 77, passed away on Monday, January 6, 2014 at Scripps Mercy Hospital in San Diego, CA. He will be remembered as a compassionate, caring physician, loyal friend and a tremendous husband and father. James "Jim" Larson was born on January 25, 1936 in Cadott, Wisconsin to Jalmer and Agnes Larson. He grew up in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin and graduated from Chippewa High School in 1954. Dr. James Alan Larson, 77, passed away on Monday, January 6, 2014 at Scripps Mercy Hospital in San Diego, CA. He will be remembered as a compassionate, caring physician, loyal friend and a tremendous husband and father.

James "Jim" Larson was born on January 25, 1936 in Cadott, Wisconsin to Jalmer and Agnes Larson. He grew up in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin and graduated from Chippewa High School in 1954. Jim attended the University of Wisconsin Madison and received his Bachelor of Medical Science in 1958 and his Doctor of Medicine in 1961. While in medical school, Jim married Darlene Gaier. Dr. and Mrs. Larson moved to California in 1961 where he did his medical internship at Santa Monica Hospital and then a four year surgical residency and Kern County Hospital in Bakersfield. In 1967, following his residency training, he served as a captain in the US Army in a MASH unit in Vietnam.

In 1968, James joined the Holmes/Larson surgical practice in Lancaster, CA. where he served the Antelope Valley community until 2007. During his career, he held the position as Chief of surgery of Antelope Valley Hospital.

Jim was an Eagle Scout, an avid fisherman and a diehard Green Bay Packer fan. Throughout his busy life he always found time for his passion, deep -sea fishing and lobster trapping. During his retirement he also enjoyed traveling the world and spending time at his lake home in Hayward, WI where he fished and reconnected with old friends and family.

He is survived by Darlene, his wife of 54 years, three children Timothy, of Denver, Co, Laura, of Pacific Palisades, CA and Craig, of Los Angeles, CA, four grandchildren, Nicholas, Hunter, Hayley and Isabel, two brothers, Wayne, Eau Claire, WI Robert, Chippewa Falls, WI, and one sister Nancy, Eden Prairie, MN

A private family celebration will be planned. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Scripps Mercy Hospital, San Diego, CA in gratitude of the many nurses, doctors and hospital employees who cared for him with such compassion over the last year.
