James D. "Jim" Logue COLUMBIA – James D. "Jim" Logue, 64, respectfully referred to as Sensei by his many martial arts students and colleagues, died Tuesday, November 15, 2011, after a long and arduous battle with cancer. Jim was born January 12, 1947, the second son of Harlee Burdette Logue and T.A. Logue. He was a member of St. Andrews Baptist Church. He attended Columbia public schools and graduated from Columbia High School. Jim attended the University of South Carolina prior to his service in the U.S. Army. COLUMBIA – James D. "Jim" Logue, 64, respectfully referred to as Sensei by his many martial arts students and colleagues, died Tuesday, November 15, 2011, after a long and arduous battle with cancer.
Jim was born January 12, 1947, the second son of Harlee Burdette Logue and T.A. Logue. He was a member of St. Andrews Baptist Church. He attended Columbia public schools and graduated from Columbia High School. Jim attended the University of South Carolina prior to his service in the U.S. Army. After a tour of duty, he began a career in nuclear engineering, first at Allied General Nuclear Services for eleven years, and later at Westinghouse Savannah River for twenty-four years.
Jim devoted much of his adult life to the study and dissemination of the skills and philosophy of the Ryukyu Kempo form of martial arts. He was a 9th degree black belt and the owner and head instructor of the Kenpukan Dojo in Lexington, SC.
Jim is survived by his devoted and loving wife of 43 years, Sherry Abel Logue; their two children, Troy Logue (Christine) of Denver, CO, and Melisa Logue Harris (Chuck) of Columbia, SC; three wonderful grandchildren, Thor, Christian, and Carter; and a brother, John Logue (Carolyn West) of Columbia, SC.
The funeral service for Jim will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, November 18, 2011 at St. Andrews Baptist Church with interment to follow in Bush River Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 17, 2011 at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Irmo/St. Andrews Chapel, located at 5400 Bush River Road, Columbia, SC.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Jim's name to the , 128 Stonemark Lane, Columbia, SC 29210, or to a charity of your choice.
