Obituary

McCready, James, age 82, of Beavercreek, passed away Friday, July 19 at Kettering Medical Center. He was born in St. Louis, Missouri, and was preceded in death by his parents, Bert and Bernice McCready. Jim is survived by his wife of 60 years, Joyce; daughter, Kathy Werkmeister and her husband, Rick; son, Steven McCready and his wife, Kristy; son, Michael McCready; grandchildren, Bryan and Colleen Werkmeister and Kelsey and Lindsey McCready; sister, Karen Peterson; niece, Karrie McLaughlin and extended family. McCready, James, age 82, of Beavercreek, passed away Friday, July 19 at Kettering Medical Center. He was born in St. Louis, Missouri, and was preceded in death by his parents, Bert and Bernice McCready. Jim is survived by his wife of 60 years, Joyce; daughter, Kathy Werkmeister and her husband, Rick; son, Steven McCready and his wife, Kristy; son, Michael McCready; grandchildren, Bryan and Colleen Werkmeister and Kelsey and Lindsey McCready; sister, Karen Peterson; niece, Karrie McLaughlin and extended family. Jim attended Washington University and received his B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Wyoming. He also earned his M.A. degree in Management from Central Michigan University. Jim served as an officer in the USAF from 1951 to 1978, serving as a jet fighter pilot and manager. After retiring from the service, he worked for many years as a project manager for Logicon and CSA. He was a member of MOAA, the AFA and Sigma Chi Fraternity. Jim was once a member of the St. Louis Philharmonic Orchestra and was affiliated with the Phi Mu Alpha Symphonic Fraternity; he had also been a member of the Beavercreek Rotary Club and was active with the Tecumseh Council of the Boy Scouts of America. Jim's hobbies included music, reading, gardening, bridge and his Friday "Conversation Club"; he was a lifelong learner and loved an intellectual challenge. Friends may call at the TOBIAS FUNERAL HOME – BEAVERCREEK CHAPEL, 3970 Dayton-Xenia Rd, on Wednesday, July 24, from 5 pm until 7 pm. Funeral services will be held at St. Andrew United Methodist Church, 350 N. Fairfield Rd, Beavercreek, on Thursday, July 25, at 10 am with interment to follow at Mt. Zion Park Cemetery in Beavercreek. Contributions in Jim's memory may be made to Hospice of Dayton. He will always be dearly beloved, greatly missed and never forgotten as a devoted son, husband, father and grandfather.
