Your dad hired me to work at Mellody-McGilley-Eylar in 1963. Jim, Jr. was a swell man and we enjoyed our own lake home next to the McGilley home in Sunrise Beach, MO for many years. Jim handled my dad's funeral in 1967 and I shall always remember his kindness to me! He was a great friend along with his own dad, the late Jim, Sr., and his late brother John! May they each Requiescat in Peace.

Dear Jim, Mark and the entire McGilley Family: On behalf of the Lawrence A. Jones & Sons Funeral Chapels family and staff, I extend my sincere condolences. As you know, the funeral service legacy of the our families are intertwined on various fronts, including but not limited to our current Linwood Chapel building and the fact that both of our fathers served as Chairmen of the Mo. State Board of Embalmers and Funeral Directors. And it is great that certain racial barriers were overcome along the way. Our prayers are with you!

Mark and Family- I was very sad to hear about your dad, he was a great person. Our fathers were great pals and it's kinda of ironic that they both had Parkinson's. Hopefully one day there will be a cure and others won't have to suffer. I'll keep you and your family in my prayers. God Bless, Erin Walsh Shannon.

Jim III and family and extended family,
James Jr was a friend of my dad. He was a great man, caring and full of compassion. He did the arrangements for my aunt, my dad and my mother. Jim III had a hand in the arrangements for my wife and, most recently, my brother. I learned many a lesson in taking care of the departed from my dad taking me to wakes down on Linwood.
My heart and prayer go out to the McGilley family. It takes a special person to do the work that he and his sons did.
I will remember him fondly.
Dia ghuit, (pr. Dia git - Gaelic for God be with you)

Dear McGilley family
I met Jim in 1970 when I came to St. Francis Xavier as Pastor; he was the consummate professional always taking such good care of grieving families. I focus on the Lord welcoming him to his special place in heaven. May he intercede for each of us that we "stay the course" until we join him. May each of you know the Lord's closeness as you close a long and storied chapter of family history. My prayers are with you and with Jim
