Lisbon Falls - James W. Meyer, 79, of Lisbon Falls, passed away at home on Saturday January 25, 2014, with his loving family by his side. He was born on February 20, 1934 in Augusta, Kentucky, a son of the late William J. and Lola E. (Edwards) Meyer. James served his country in the U.S. Army for 21 years in both the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He also served in Turkey, 2 tours in Germany, Italy and in Alaska before it became a legal state in the United States. 13 1/2 years out of 21 years of his service was spent overseas before he retired with his honorable discharge in 1974. Lisbon Falls - James W. Meyer, 79, of Lisbon Falls, passed away at home on Saturday January 25, 2014, with his loving family by his side. He was born on February 20, 1934 in Augusta, Kentucky, a son of the late William J. and Lola E. (Edwards) Meyer. James served his country in the U.S. Army for 21 years in both the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He also served in Turkey, 2 tours in Germany, Italy and in Alaska before it became a legal state in the United States. 13 1/2 years out of 21 years of his service was spent overseas before he retired with his honorable discharge in 1974. After retiring from the service he worked at KFC, Durfee's flooring, Brunswick Navy Base and at L.L. Bean's maintenance retail store. He also served on The Advisory Board of Lisbon. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Betty A. Meyer, 8 children: Jeffrey Montgomery and wife Karen of Dover, Ky., Julie A. Garland and companion James Lindberg of Durham, Me., Connie L. Strople of Skowhegan, James A. Meyer and wife Susan of Fayetville, N.C., William M. Meyer of Harleysville, Pa., Thornton R. Meyer of Portland, Me., Ronald C. Meyer of South Thomaston, Me. and Timothy W. Meyer of Lisbon Falls, many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. James was predeceased by his mother: Elizabeth Edwards, Meyer, Bell and his father: William J. Meyer of Augusta, Ky. Visitation will be held at The Crosman Funeral Home on Thursday January 30 from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM. Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 10:00 AM followed by committal services at The Maine Veterans Cemetery on the Mt. Vernon Road in Augusta at 1:00 PM.
