He was raised in Ridley Park, Pennsylvania and graduated from Ridley Park High School in the class of 1942. While attending high school he participated in track and football. He served as a Navy gunner in World War II in South Pacific with Air Group II Torpedo Squadron aboard USS Hornet April through October 1944. Through his experience, he was awarded 3 Air Medals and the Distinguished Flying Cross for combat excellence among numerous others. He graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with scholastic honors majoring in civil engineering. There, he was also a member of Kappa Sigma Fraternity. For most of his life, he worked for Scott Paper as a resident construction manager for many capital projects and retired in 1988. In order for he and his family to remain in the beautiful city of Mobile, he resigned and was rehired twice by Scott Paper. While he was not working for Scott, Jim managed major construction projects for the large joint venture contracts of Martin Builders and Stuart Construction. He was very active at St. Paul's Episcopal Church and proudly served as Senior Warden and on the Vestry several times. Active in numerous charitable community organizations, such as Meals on Wheels, he still found time to be an excellent golfer, fisherman and bridge player.

Jim was preceded in the death by his loving wife of 61 years, Phyllis Deemer Moore, his father, Robert Lewis Moore, his mother, Lucy Mortimer Moore, brothers, Robert Lewis Moore, Jr., Harold Pennington Moore, Penrose Brown Moore, and Charles Davis Moore, and his sister, Carolyn Moore Ewart. He is survived by his three daughters, Phyllis Moore McCain (Jack) of Auburn, Pamela Lynn Moore and Patricia Moore Parnell (Stuart) of Mobile. Five grandchildren, Pamela Grace Phillips, Patricia Sewell Parnell, Stuart Alexander Parnell, Jr., James Leighton Parnell, and Patrick Moore Parnell. And many, many dear friends.

A special thanks to Dr. Adrian Bodet, III for making his final days peaceful and blessed through his excellent care.

Visitation will be held at St. Paul's Episcopal Church Parish Hall Tuesday, January 28 at 10:00 AM followed by a memorial service in the Little Church at 11:00 AM.
