Obituary

James LeRoy Morter of Virginia Beach, went to be with his wife on Monday, April 21, 2014. James was born and raised in Logansport, Indiana. He has been a resident of Virginia Beach for 35 years. James was a retired US Navy Veteran. He spent much of his life raising and showing registered rabbits, as well as a licensed show judge. He has many trophies representing prize winning rabbits. James was preceded in death by his loving wife of 52 years, Edith; his parents, Harry E. Morter Sr. and Mary E. Parrish; one brother, Harry E. James LeRoy Morter of Virginia Beach, went to be with his wife on Monday, April 21, 2014. James was born and raised in Logansport, Indiana. He has been a resident of Virginia Beach for 35 years. James was a retired US Navy Veteran. He spent much of his life raising and showing registered rabbits, as well as a licensed show judge. He has many trophies representing prize winning rabbits.
James was preceded in death by his loving wife of 52 years, Edith; his parents, Harry E. Morter Sr. and Mary E. Parrish; one brother, Harry E. Morter, Jr.; a nephew, Kenneth Morter; a niece, Sherry Thorton and two daughters-in-law, Kim Morter and Debby Morter. He was also predeceased by a very special pet, Smokey.
James is survived by his daughter, Diane Adams and husband, Berl, of LA; five sons, Rick Crawley and wife Susan of Indiana, James Morter, Frank Morter and wife Ann, Mike Morter and Ronald Morter, all of Virginia Beach; two brothers, Ron Morter and Bob Morter and wife Peg of Indiana; one sister, Betty Fudge and husband David of Florida and a sister-in-law Peg Morter of Virginia Beach; five grandchildren, Rebecca Adams of LA, Daniel Adams and wife Alena and Stephen Adams and wife Megan, of TN, David Adams and wife, Samantha of LA, and Evan Morter of AR; three great-grandchildren, Brandon, Sabrina and Joshua. He is also survived by a special friend, Cheryl Dukes.
James was loved and respected by those he knew. His main goals in life was taking care of his family and helping others.
A visitation will be on Thursday from 6-8pm at Rosewood Kellum Funeral Home. A funeral service will be on Friday, 11am, in the Kellum Funeral Home chapel, with burial to follow. Online condolences may be offered to the family at www.kellumfuneralhome.com.
