James "Jim" Morton, 83, of Kansas City, Kansas, passed away August 24, 2014 at home surrounded by family. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Wednesday, August 27th at Chapel Hill – Butler Funeral Home, 701 North 94th Street, Kansas City, Kansas. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Thursday, August 28th at the funeral home with Interment with Honors to follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the James Morton Memorial Fund, c/o Chapel Hill-Butler, 701 North 94th Street, Kansas City, Kansas. Jim was born July 3, 1931 in Cushing, Oklahoma to Loren and Linnie Morton. He graduated from Cushing High School, where he lettered in baseball and basketball and he enjoyed watching all sports, especially OU. He served in the Army, where he trained at Fort Hood and served as an Army Sergeant during the Korean Conflict and later at a Bridge Building School in Ft. Belvoir, Virginia. Jim married the love of his life, Bonnie Farrell, on February 2, 1952. He worked in the oil and distribution industry for 41 years. He was a family man and enjoyed working with his hands; he rebuilt small engines and was very proud of his yard and garden.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two step-brothers and three step-sisters.
Jim is survived by his wife of 62 years, Bonnie Morton; his sons, Steve Morton (Diane) and Randy Morton (Patty); his grandson, Ryan Morton (Patty); his great grandsons, Jacob and Samuel Morton; his two sisters, Wilma Boyle and Wanda Hudgins; several brothers and sisters-in-law and many nieces and nephews and other friends and family.
