James Powell Obituary

James J. Powell, 79, of Manchester, died November 13, 2012 at the Ridgewood Center in Bedford after a lengthy illness. He was born on May 25, 1933 in Lebanon, NH the son of George and Eileen (Braddel) Powell. He grew up in Lebanon and was a graduate of Hanover High School. He also attended the University of New Hampshire and later relocated to Manchester.

Jim was a US Army veteran and served in Company C of the 35th Infantry Regiment during the Korean Conflict. He was awarded the Korean Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal and the United Nations Service Medal.

He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed his time spent hunting, fishing and hiking. He was a member of the Audubon Society, and the Appalachian Mountain Club.

He was predeceased by his wife of 30 years Simone Powell in February 1997.

Members of his family include his son Alan Powell and his wife Lisa of Arlington, VT, his two daughters Tina Powell and Allison Powell both of Manchester, two grandchildren Dante Clarke and Nathan Clarke and his brother Richard Powell of Golden Co. as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visitation was held on Friday November 16, 2012 from 2-4 and 6-8PM at the McHugh Funeral Home 283 Hanover St. corner of Beech St. in Manchester. A Funeral Service was celebrated on Saturday November 17 at 10AM in the funeral home. Burial followed in St. Augustin Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Jim's name to the Society for the Protection of NH Forests, 54 Portsmouth St. Concord, NH 03301.
