James Lewis Rohweder, 86, of Proctor, died Friday, May 03, 2013 at Bayshore. He was born in 1926 to Arthur "AV" and Bernice Rohweder in Duluth. Jim attended Duluth Central High School, Duluth Junior College, and graduated from UMD in 1950. Jim worked for DM&IR as the Supervisor of Safety for 30 years and retired in 1983. He was a past chairman of Duluth Industrial Safety School and a member of its Board of Directors. James Lewis Rohweder, 86, of Proctor, died Friday, May 03, 2013 at Bayshore. He was born in 1926 to Arthur "AV" and Bernice Rohweder in Duluth. Jim attended Duluth Central High School, Duluth Junior College, and graduated from UMD in 1950.
Jim worked for DM&IR as the Supervisor of Safety for 30 years and retired in 1983. He was a past chairman of Duluth Industrial Safety School and a member of its Board of Directors. He was also a member of the Minnesota Safety Council, the Railroad section of the National Safety Council, VFW Post #137, Loyal Order of Moose #1302 Proctor, and Elks Lodge #133. He was a member and past commander of Post 106 American Legion and a charter member of Proctor VFW and Proctor Lions. Jim was also a charter member and the first president of the Proctor Chamber of Commerce, a councilman and former mayor of Proctor, charter member and past president of Four Lakes Community Club Cotton, charter member and first president of Sturgeon Island Road and Bridge Association. He proudly served his nation in the U.S. Naval Air Transport Service in WWII.
Jim married Joan McDevitt on August 16, 1947, who died in 1983. He then married Shirley Bourman on October 20, 1983, who died in 1996. He is also preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Ralph, and his sister, Jean.
Jim is survived by loving wife, Alice; four children, James (Jan)Rohweder of Proctor, Patricia (Charles) Burch of Milwaukee, Daniel (Linda) Rohweder of Proctor, and Michelle (Jeff) Bachke of Duluth; step-daughter Jeanna (Billy)Guthrie of Hawaii, and step-son Wayne Halverson of Minneapolis; 11 grandchildren; 3 step grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; 1 great-great-granddaughter; He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends.
Visitation will be Tuesday May 7, 2013 from 5-7 at Bell Brothers Funeral Chapel, 601 N 56th Ave W. Duluth. Memorial service with Mass will be Wednesday, May 8, 2013 at 10am at St. Rose Catholic Church, 3 N 6th Ave, Proctor. Visitation one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday. Inurnment at Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred.
