James B. "Jim" Schwantner born on April 3, 1938 in St. Louis, MO passed away peacefully at home on July 5, 2014. He served in the US Army and made El Paso home for 46 years. He worked as produce manager at Safeway, Furrs, and Quality Food Mart. He had a love for baseball and was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan. He enjoyed weekend trips to Las Vegas and Ruidoso. He was a member of All Sports Club and the San Juan Softball team for many years. Jim was preceded in death by his parents: Bernard V. and Dorothy Schwantner, brother: Bernard F, and grandson Evan. He is survived by his wife Estela of 51 years, children: Lisa and Brian (Sara), grandchildren: Cheyane (Frankie), Christian, Brian, Adam, Joseph, and brother: Dennis (Dottie), as well as many family and friends who loved him dearly. Pallbearers: Brian, Christian, Brian A., Dennis, Frankie Lopez, and David Del Toro. Honorary Pallbearers: Adam and Joseph. In honor of his love for Cardinal baseball, his family invites you to wear anything red. A special thanks to Dr. Inez Sanchez and Nurse Erika Rosas. Visitation: Thursday, July 10, 2014 from 4:00 – 9:00 p.m. at Hillcrest Funeral Home-Carolina with a Vigil at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass: 12:45 p.m. at San Antonio de Padua Catholic Church. Interment will follow at 2:00 p.m. at Fort Bliss National Cemetery. Services under the direction of HILLCREST FUNERAL HOME 1060 Carolina 592-3332.
