James Barrett Shaffer II (Jim) passed away in Pueblo, CO on March 6, 2014, at 67 years of age, after a long battle with the debilitating effects of Alzheimer's disease. Jim was born on February 25, 1947 in Denver, CO. He was raised in Durango, CO and graduated from Durango High School in 1965. He attended Adams State College in Alamosa, and eventually graduated from Metropolitan State College in Denver with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science. James Barrett Shaffer II (Jim) passed away in Pueblo, CO on March 6, 2014, at 67 years of age, after a long battle with the debilitating effects of Alzheimer's disease. Jim was born on February 25, 1947 in Denver, CO. He was raised in Durango, CO and graduated from Durango High School in 1965. He attended Adams State College in Alamosa, and eventually graduated from Metropolitan State College in Denver with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science. Jim married his high school sweetheart, Belva Otten, on June 17, 1966 in Littleton, CO. In 1977, Jim moved his family to Pueblo, where he lived for over 30 years. Jim retired from Xcel Energy in 2001 as Director of Meter Reading after 36 years of employment. He also served in the United States Army from 1970 to 1976. Jim also volunteered for numerous community organizations over the years including United Way, Red Cross, Pueblo Diversified Industries and Leadership Pueblo. Jim is survived by his wife of 47 years Belva Shaffer, daughter, Collette Shaffer (Scott Gates) of Pueblo; son, Jim (Darcy) Shaffer of Salida, CO; grandchildren, Aaron Schmidt, Morgan Schmidt, Kaylynn Shaffer and Kendall Shaffer.
