Obituary

James C. Smith, a long time resident of Clute passed away Sunday evening March 30, 2014 in College Station TX. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 pm Friday April 4, 2014 at Restwood Funeral Home in Lake Jackson, TX. A rosary will be recited at 7 pm at the funeral home. A Mass of Christian burial will be conducted at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Lake Jackson, TX. April 5 at 12 pm followed by interment at Restwood Memorial Park. James was born Sept. 2, 1933 in Lufkin, TX. He graduated from Freeport High School. James enjoyed his High School years and played football and sang in the school choir. James was born Sept. 2, 1933 in Lufkin, TX. He graduated from Freeport High School. James enjoyed his High School years and played football and sang in the school choir. He was an avid golfer, expert domino player and enjoyed all sports. He served in the United States Air Force for 22 years, retiring in 1974. He served with distinction and honor during the Korean War, Cuban Missile Crisis, and Vietnam War. He was stationed in Korea, Japan, Cuba, Thailand and various locations in the United States. Upon his retirement he returned to Texas and worked for Monsanto at Chocolate Bayou for many years as a Safety Engineer.
James was a devoted and loving husband and father. He is survived by his wife Shirley, two sons, Craig and wife Nancy, James Jr., and wife Suzan, and grandsons, Zane and Nathan, his sister Eudine Duprey, from Japser, TX, and numerous nieces and nephews.
James was preceded in death by his parents James (Jimmy) and Marie Smith, brothers Melvin, Charles, David, and Eddie and his sisters Betty and Joyce.
The Family wishes to thank all the caregivers at Fortress Health and Rehab in College Station as Well as Hospice Brazos Valley for their compassion and support.
Memorials may be made in his honor to , Alzheimer, or Hospice Brazos Valley.
