James S. Weir, age 90, passed away in Houston on Saturday, the 19th of October 2013.
Jim was born on the 11th of April 1923 in Chisholm, Minnesota, in the heart of the Mesabi Iron Ore Range. An only child, he served in World War II in Belgium before returning home to complete his Master of Arts from the University of Minnesota. Jim was dedicated to his work in the mining and railroad industries until joining the FBI in 1951, the same year he married his lovely wife of 61 years, Angie, who preceded him in death last year. The couple lived in California for 12 years before he was transferred to Houston in 1963, where they raised their family and resided until the time of their deaths.
Jim was a fierce patriot who was passionate about his children and grandchildren. Rarely was a baseball, football or girls' softball game ever missed. He was a member of St Cecilia's Catholic Church for 50 years. Jim adored the Chicago Cubs, bird hunting with friends, and was a proud member of the FBI fraternity. "Whispering Jim" was a handsome man with a big voice, an imposing presence and an eternal twinkle in his eye. He instilled a great sense of honor, pride and sportsmanship in his family. He will be buried with his beautiful and loving wife, Angie. They are both dearly missed.
Survivors include son, Stephen Weir and wife Stephanie; son, Michael Weir and wife Melanie; son, Daniel Weir; grandchildren, Jennifer Couch and husband, David Couch, Patricia, Rachel, and Jack Weir and great-grandchildren, Wade Couch and Angela Couch.
Prior to the service, the family will have gathered for a private interment at Houston National Cemetery.
The memorial service is to be conducted at two o'clock in the afternoon on Thursday, the 24th of October, in the Jasek Chapel of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston where Deacon Don Bradley of St. Cecilia's Catholic Community is to officiate.
In lieu of customary remembrances, memorial contributions in Mr. Weir's memory may be directed to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America, 322 Eighth Ave., 7th Floor, New York, NY 10001.
