Jane DeLoach Parks, age 86, of Chattanooga, passed away on Tuesday, June 11, 2013.
Born in Atlanta, GA, Jane was the daughter of Lora Lee DeLoach and John "Jack" Keller DeLoach. After graduating from Girls' High in Atlanta, she earned a B.A. in English from Vanderbilt University, where she graduated summa cum laude and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa and Mortar Board. In 1951, she married James Bennett Parks, and together they raised three daughters. She taught at Signal Mountain Elementary and the Cleveland Day School before accepting a position with Stophel, Caldwell, and Heggie, where she worked as the librarian and as a paralegal assistant until her retirement in 1997. A charter member of Signal Crest United Methodist Church, she was active in numerous professional and community service organizations.
She is survived by her daughters, Susan Jane Parks and Lora Elizabeth Maury of Chattanooga and Carrie Anne Parks-Kirby of Alma, MI: her grandson, Barrett Maury and son-in-law, Ken Maury; her nephews, Thomas Lee Paris (Brenda) of Suwanee, GA and Russell Paris (Judy) of Doraville, GA; her great nieces, Melissa Paris Daniel, Lauren Killion and her great nephews, Allen Paris, Christopher Paris, Steven Paris, and Jonathan Paris.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Jim, her sisters, Lora Lee Allums and Anne Paris; her brothers-in-law, John Allums and Thomas Paris; her nieces, Lora Lee Allums and Suzie Paris Killion and son-in-law, Kent Kirby.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 pm on Sunday at the Chattanooga Funeral Home – North Chapel.
Services for Mrs. Parks will be held at 1 pm on Monday at the Signal Crest United Methodist Church with Reverend Mark Gooden officiating. Burial will follow in National Cemetery.
Gifts in lieu of flowers may be made to Signal Mountain Public Library, Signal Crest United Methodist Church or Amedysis Hospice.
Arrangements are by the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory and Florist, 5401 Highway 153, Hixson, Tennessee 37343.
