Jane Duffy Steele, 92, died peacefully in her sleep at home on Tuesday, March 18, 2014. Born Dec. 22, 1921, she lived in Verona for 61 years before moving to Brielle in 1986. Jane is survived by her nine children, Suzanne Walsh and husband, Dennis, of Doylestown, PA; Eileen Sharkey and husband, Tom, of Andover, MA; Mary Ellen Burns and husband, Frank, of River Edge, NJ; Nancy Cleary and husband, Tom, of Ridgefield, CT; Brian of Hoboken, NJ; Lucy of Ewing, NJ; Daniel of Asbury Park, NJ; Sally Pakutka and husband, Will, of Manasquan, NJ; and Peggy Thorn and husband, Ray, of Sea Girt, NJ; 22 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Jane Duffy Steele, 92, died peacefully in her sleep at home on Tuesday, March 18, 2014. Born Dec. 22, 1921, she lived in Verona for 61 years before moving to Brielle in 1986.

Jane is survived by her nine children, Suzanne Walsh and husband, Dennis, of Doylestown, PA; Eileen Sharkey and husband, Tom, of Andover, MA; Mary Ellen Burns and husband, Frank, of River Edge, NJ; Nancy Cleary and husband, Tom, of Ridgefield, CT; Brian of Hoboken, NJ; Lucy of Ewing, NJ; Daniel of Asbury Park, NJ; Sally Pakutka and husband, Will, of Manasquan, NJ; and Peggy Thorn and husband, Ray, of Sea Girt, NJ; 22 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband of 35 years, Arden C. Steele, in 1978, and her brother, Daniel A. Duffy.

Jane graduated from Mount Saint Dominic Academy, Caldwell. Jane was a devout Catholic and an active parishioner of Our Lake of the Lake Church, Verona, and St. Mark's Church, Sea Girt. She was a member of Brielle Seniors, enjoyed playing bridge and bowling, and volunteered with Meals on Wheels.

Jane loved and cared deeply for her large extended family, and for her friends, of which she had many. She will be remembered for her strong faith, her wit and wisdom, her laughter, courage and strength. She loved sports, especially baseball, and she enjoyed a good party. She was proud of her Irish heritage and cherished the memories of her trips to Ireland. Jane leaves a legacy of love and laughter, family and faith. May God hold her in the palm of His hand.

Visitation will be on Friday, March 21, 2014 from 5-9pm at the Neary-Quinn Funeral Home, 39 South Street, Manasquan, NJ. A Mass will be held on Saturday, March 22, 2014 at 9:30 am at St. Marks RC Church in Sea Girt. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in East Hanover, NJ.
