Janet Altizer Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 22, 2011.

Janet Marie Neal Altizer, born November 15, 1935 to William and Ailene Neal of Bluefield, WV, passed away peacefully in her Memphis home March 21, 2011. Janet was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, and daughter. In the 70's she picked up her mother's passion for caring by volunteering at Ave Maria Senior's Home, donating 100's of hours to the St. Joseph Circle of Ave Maria Guild. She worked in the Salon, styling and cutting hair, and often was recognized for her volunteerism. Her family always said she devoted so much time to taking care of others because her husband and three sons would abandon her to play golf all of the time. So Janet decided that instead of being a golf widow, she would take up the sport. In 1988, she scored a Hole-In-One at what was then Houston Levee Golf Club in Collierville, TN. To prove that it was no fluke, Janet aced another hole at Houston Levee 5 years later. Golf became her passion, and through it Janet and her husband, George, made many lasting friendships. Janet had many friends and family who loved her and will miss her dearly. She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, George C. Altizer. Surviving are her 3 sons, Maurice Anthony "Tony" Altizer of Orlando, FL. David Alan (Joanne) Altizer of Bartlett; and Randall Neal (Ann) Altizer of Memphis; her brothers David Lee Neal and William Michael "Mike" (Karren) Neal both of Bluefield, WV; two grandchildren, Jonathan David Altizer, and Jaclyn Sword; and 2 great grand- children. The family will receive friends at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens – Germantown Parkway on Wednesday, March 23, 2011 from 5 – 7. Funeral Services and Interment will be at Memphis Funeral Home – Germantown Parkway on Thursday, March 24, 2011 at 2:00 p.m.
