Janet A. Anderson, 93, of Chester Village West, Chester, CT, formerly of Westport, Massachusetts and Grosse Ile, Michigan, died peacefully March 3, 2012, under hospice care in Middletown, Connecticut. Her husband was the late Donald E. Anderson, who predeceased her in 2006. Born on Grosse Ile, Michigan in 1918, she was the daughter of the late Robert A. Alexander and Hazel S. Alexander. She attended Grosse Ile High School in Grosse Ile, Michigan, and the Women's College of the University of North Carolina in Greensboro, NC.

For over sixty five years Janet resided on Grosse Ile, Michigan, as had more than three preceding generations of her family. She and her husband, Donald, met on Grosse Ile, where they were both actively involved in the St. James Episcopal Church; he was the music director and she the beautiful alto with whom he fell in love. She was also a member of the St. James Alter Guild.

Janet was an avid gardener. She and her mother Hazel were dedicated participants in the annual Greens Market at St. James. She was also a talented ceramist throughout her life, and continued to develop her skills at "clay class" at Chester Village West. She enjoyed her bridge club, and her book club. Janet was a master wordsmith, specializing in crossword puzzles and grammatical perfection.

Following her husband's retirement, Janet and Donald resided part-time until the mid-1990's on the island of St. Martin in the French Antilles.

She is survived by her children, Robert Alexander Anderson and his wife Margot Hand of Darien Connecticut, Linn Norin Anderson of Andover, Massachusetts; grandchildren, Julianne A. Mann, MD and her husband Britton R. Mann of Portland, Oregon, and Andrew Prezkop of Denver, CO; and a great granddaughter, Coraline A. Mann of Portland, OR.

A memorial service will be held at St. Ann's Episcopal Church, 82 Shore Rd., Old Lyme, CT at 11 am on Friday, March 9.

There are no calling hours. Private interment will be in the Memorial Garden at St. James Episcopal Church, Grosse Ile, Michigan.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Mrs. Anderson's name may be made to "The Donald E. Anderson Memorial Pipe Organ Fund," St. James Episcopal Church, 25150 East River Rd., Grosse Ile, Michigan 48138, or to the Hospice Weiss Unit, Middlesex Hospital, 28 Crescent Street, Middletown, CT 06457.

Fulton-Theroux Funeral Home, Old Lyme, is handling the arrangements. Please visit www.fultontherouxoldlyme.com for directions and more service information.
