Reflections of Her Life
Janet Ruth Brown was born to Arthur and Jennie Brown of Buffalo, New York on January 31, 1924 and peacefully departed this life on the morning of March 19, 2014 in Portland, Oregon. She was 90 years old.

Janet received her education in the Buffalo Public School System. Janet attended church in Buffalo and committed her life to Jesus Christ, as her Lord and Savior at an early age.

In her early twenties Janet left Buffalo, New York and moved to Portland, Oregon, the city she came to love. Career focused, she completed classes in Business Education at Portland Community College. In 1974 she began working in the Multnomah County Courthouse for the Oregon Judicial Department.

In Portland, she joined New Hope Missionary Baptist Church and served faithfully
on the usher board. In the seventies she moved her membership to Maranatha Church. As a faithful member, she served with distinction on Maranatha's Usher Board for over 30 years. Janet took her post as a doorkeeper in God's house seriously. She went about her ushering duties with grace and a beautiful smile, helping to ensure that all attendees and guests felt welcomed and comfortable. She became affectionately known as "Sister Janet" by her church family and "Auntie Janet" to some. Her favorite Bible passage was the 23rd Psalm.

Many friends, acquaintances, and co-workers will remember Janet as the nice lady with the bun hair style. Janet worked in several positions at Multnomah County Court House, during her 30 years of employment with the Oregon Judicial Department; her job performance earned her several awards. In 2003 Janet retired from the position of Court Operations Specialist after "personal commitment, dedication and excellence in service to the Oregon Judicial Department". While working at the court house, Janet also faithfully attended The Downtown Bible Class once a week during her lunch hour.

Though she had no children of her own, she was an encourager to single mothers in the church. Sister Janet was an advocate of children's education and provided educational funds for children in her family. Janet was a consistent and devoted supporter of Maranatha Church's International Mission Outreach, including the Maranatha School and Mission House in Haiti.

Sister Janet enjoyed finding and collecting bargains. One of her favorite pastimes was watching movies, especially shows about courthouse drama.

Janet's parents and her beloved sisters, Betty E. Robinson and Mary Kinkle preceded her in death and welcomed her into her eternal rest. She is survived by a caring and loving family: nieces Diane Kinkle and Candace Skinner, nephews: Robert Kinkle, Trevor Kinkle, Jeffery Brown, Maurice Brown, and Robert (Novelette) Brown.
Our dear Sister Janet will always be remembered by her devoted Maranatha Church family, and many friends.
