Janet Rae Clark, 80, of Taylor Road, died 7:35 a.m. Saturday, April 21, 2012, at Columbus Regional Hospital. Miss Clark was born in Columbus, December 4, 1931. She was the daughter of William Hiram and Beatrice L. Smith Clark. She was a graduate of Ball State University and received a Master's degree from Denver University. She did post graduate work at Indiana University, I.U.P.U.I., University of Chicago, University of Colorado in Boulder, Colorado State University and University of St. Mark and St. John in Plymouth, England. Janet Rae Clark, 80, of Taylor Road, died 7:35 a.m. Saturday, April 21, 2012, at Columbus Regional Hospital.
Miss Clark was born in Columbus, December 4, 1931. She was the daughter of William Hiram and Beatrice L. Smith Clark. She was a graduate of Ball State University and received a Master's degree from Denver University. She did post graduate work at Indiana University, I.U.P.U.I., University of Chicago, University of Colorado in Boulder, Colorado State University and University of St. Mark and St. John in Plymouth, England.
Miss Clark was a Special Education Teacher for the Bartholomew Consolidated Schools, having taught in the Wilson Building, and also taught second grade at Richard's School The former Wayne School and retiring from Southside Elementary School. She also taught in On-Base Schools, Anchorage, Alaska and Honokaa, Hawaii.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Columbus, Indiana State Reading Assoc. serving as a co-presenter of state workshops for Parent Involvement in Special Education, Involved in Special Education programs and a co-authoring program pairing sophomore English honor classes with second graders to establish and in-school publishing company. Member of National Education Assoc., Indiana Retired Teachers Assoc., Indiana State Women's Club, Delta Kappa Gamma. Attended European State Organization (DKG) in Cambridge, England as a U.S. representative, sang in International Chorus at the DKG 50th anniversary convention in Dallas.
She sang in church choirs for over 60 years. In Columbus she was active in Arts Guild Productions, coral groups, the "Note-ables" performing ensemble and Madrigal Singers. In Florida St Leo University Oratorical Society, Trinity University Methodist Church Choir, meals on wheels driver and Zephyrhills Historical Society. She was nominated in 1998 for the Golden Rule Award by Pres. and Mrs. Clinton.
Miss Clark was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, William Keith Clark. She is survived by sister-in-law, Patricia A. Clark of Newberry, FL; niece, Lynn L. (Eric) Clark-Geiner of Ferndale, MI; nephews, William Bruce (Cyndi) Clark of North Platte, Neb. and Michael S. (Jeanette) Clark of Oceanside, CA; great nieces, Rachael (Brent) Livek, Marianne (Paul ) Sammons; great nephew, Trevor William (Lisette) Clark; 1 great great niece and 1 great great nephew.
Funeral service 10:30 a.m. Saturday First United Methodist Church. Dr. Gary Schaar and Rev. Brian Campbell will officiate. Calling 4-8 p.m. Friday Hathaway-Myers Chapel on Pearl Street and from 10:00 a.m. to service Saturday at the church.
Burial Garland Brook Cemetery.
