Juanita "Janie" F. Jimenez, 83, of San Antonio passed away at home surrounded by her loving family on Sunday, February 23, 2014. She was born on May 6, 1930 in Elemendorf to the late Nieves and Jose Angel Flores. Janie graduated from Fox Tech High School and went on to work as an accountant at Lackland AFB for 35 years. She married the late Alex Jimenez and with him built a life centered around their five children and extended family to which Janie showed unsurpassed dedication. She was an active member in the community through participation in the Ladies Auxiliary of Prospect Hill Yellow Jackets and a Charter and Life Member of VFW...
Juanita "Janie" F. Jimenez, 83, of San Antonio passed away at home surrounded by her loving family on Sunday, February 23, 2014. She was born on May 6, 1930 in Elemendorf to the late Nieves and Jose Angel Flores. Janie graduated from Fox Tech High School and went on to work as an accountant at Lackland AFB for 35 years. She married the late Alex Jimenez and with him built a life centered around their five children and extended family to which Janie showed unsurpassed dedication. She was an active member in the community through participation in the Ladies Auxiliary of Prospect Hill Yellow Jackets and a Charter and Life Member of VFW Westside Post 8936 Ladies Auxiliary for 37 years. In that organization Janie held the offices of Secretary for 14 years; Sr Vice President from 2005-2006; Jr. Vice President 2008-2009; lead as chairperson for cancer aid and research, and supported all events, including the cascarones fundraiser to benefit children of the Westside. Janie was a devout Catholic, and member of Prince of Peace Church for 33 years. She shared her love of music and devotion to God as a member of the Church Choir for over 25 years. Her life of service to God, country and family guided her actions, instilled the value of service in her children and was an inspiration to all who knew her. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her brothers Melchor M. Flores, Jesse M. Flores, Joe Flores and Pete M. Flores; her sister Adela Perales; and granddaughter Jennifer A. Jimenez. She is survived by children Linda Jimenez (Bill), Alex Jimenez, Jr. (Karla), Janie Maximenko, Catherine J. McCoy (David), JoAnn Hernandez (John); granddaughters Esperanza Garza-Danweber (Sean), Erica Mata (Horacio), Analisa Maximenko, Sarah Hernandez, Joanna Hernandez, Danielle Jimenez, Natalie McCoy, grandson Jason Maximenko; and 7 great-grandchildren Lexie, Alex, Emiliano, Octavia, Jaden, John Paul, and Américo "Amor"; her stepbrothers Jesse Estrada and Manuel Flores; sister-in-laws Rosa P. Flores, Janie Molina and Lillie Mae Maldonado; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to extend their appreciation to all her doctors especially Dr. Pedro Rivas. A viewing will be held at Prince of Peace Catholic Church on Thursday, February 27th from 6 – 7 pm followed by a Mass at 7 pm and Rosary at 8 pm officiated by Monsignor
Cronin. Graveside services will be held Friday, February 28 at 9 am at Ft Sam Houston National Cemetery. Flowers may be delivered to Sunset Northwest Funeral Home, 6321 Bandera Rd., 78238.
