Janine Worland Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 9, 2017.

Janine Raines Worland died unexpectedly at her home in Paola, Kansas on January 6, 2017. Janine was born September 17, 1960 in Springfield, Missouri and was the only child of Robert and Charlene Raines. She graduated from Kickapoo High School and then Drury University before embarking on a very successful career in the insurance industry which eventually caused her in 1999 to join A.J. Gallagher / Risk Placement Services ("RPS") working first in Springfield, Missouri and eventually in Kansas City where she became Vice President for RPS and in charge of RPS' Kansas City Branch.

While with RPS she became a very successful wholesale insurance broker specializing in complicated and difficult to place property and casualty exposures. Her technical insurance knowledge and her positive, upbeat personality earned her a great reputation within the industry where she successfully competed at a high level within the special risk market. She built a very successful book of business, while also managing the RPS branch by recruiting, mentoring and developing strong bonds with her associates, retailers, markets and clients. As driven as Janine was to be successful at everything she did, Janine was more demanding of herself than of others. She was a great spokesman and recruiter for RPS and she loved partying and spending time with her family and personal and business friends. She truly loved the people of RPS who she considered part of her family. Janine was a very positive person with an upbeat personality who loved life and this attribute gave her the ability to overcome personal losses and heartbreaks she faced in her life.

She enjoyed life and insisted others enjoy it also. She was a builder of both personal and business relationships. Nothing gave her more satisfaction than when her son, Blake, elected to intern with Gallagher in 2011 and later join RPS permanently in 2013. Janine and the RPS family have mentored him since assuring that he will have the strength to move forward in his life.

Janine was predeceased by her father, Robert Raines, and her husband of over twenty years, Robert Worland who died in 2011. She is survived by her mother, Charlene Raines of Springfield, her son Blake Worland of Kansas City and her current husband, Scott Fisher, who she married in 2014 and step-sons Kyle Fisher and Ryan Fisher. She is also survived by her father-in-law, William Worland, mother-in-law, Maida Worland, and her sister-in-law, Kathy Nigro and by many nieces, nephews, cousins and "shirt-tail relatives" whose lives she touched and who will miss her very much.

On Wednesday, January 11, 2017 there will be a visitation held between 9:00 am and 12:30 pm followed by a funeral service beginning at 1:00 pm both to be held at the Church of the Resurrection in the Wesley Covenant Chapel located at 13720 Roe Avenue, Leawood, Kansas following the funeral, there will be a reception in Janine's honor between 2:30 pm and 5:30 pm on Wednesday, January 11, 2017 at the Hallbrook Country Club located at 11200 Overbrook Road, Leawood, Kansas where friends and family will gather.

Janine's family suggests that those wishing to make a donation in Janine's name consider Wayside Waifs located at 3801 Martha Truman Road in Kansas City, MO 64137 in recognition of her love of animals.

The suddenness of her passing leaves us all saddened. Still, those who knew Janine best will take solace in the knowledge that Janine "lived life to the fullest" and accomplished more (and had much more fun doing it) than most of the rest of us. We will all truly miss her but we will never forget her or how she touched our lives.

The night of our high school graduation was also my last night in Springfield, Missouri and Janine and I spent it on my driveway listening to "Freebird" and more songs with friends who'd stop by. We spent many weekends at Table Rock Lake (thank you, Charlene) and Janine had the guts and enthusiasm to go cliff-jumping. She had a zest for life, a huge capacity to love and she looked pretty darn cool in a 280ZX! I am glad to say she was my friend. For Blake and Charlene, I am so very sorry for your loss.

Janine was a truly a special person, one that embraced life, was full of love, joy, and made everyone around her a better and happier person. Very few people in our business can claim to have her combination of ingenuity, integrity, and passion. At one point we went through similar struggles together and she became a great inspiration to me by helping me continue to focus on what's good in life. At work, we were (by definition) "competitors", but in reality, I never once thought of her as anything other than a great friend and a great person - someone that I learned a lot from personally and in my career. I am heartbroken to learn of her sudden passing. There is no doubt she will be missed by all that knew her. Rest in peace, my dear friend.

Janine and I ran around a lot together our Senior year at Kickapoo. She had that little silver Datsun and boy did we have fun in that car! (Enough said on that) She liked to laugh and liked to have fun! We took a road trip in June after we graduated with Charlene. We went to the Grand Canyon, Las Vegas, San Diego and San Francisco!! Having traveled very little up to that point, it changed my life. Definitely gave me a love for traveling, seeing new places, being open to anything and having new adventures. She was a very special person. (Patty Helm)

I am truly sorry for your loss.

Blake, you and your family are in my thoughts and prayers. I am so sorry to hear of this news today. Though I only knew Janine for a few years I can honestly say that she was one of my favorite people. Her smile and attitude were so cheerful and could light a room. If you could mix professionalism with adventure you would find Janine. Saying it was a pleasure to know Janine is a true understatement.

I have cried a river, my friend. Our years at Drury were an amazing part of my life. The BEST roommate EVER! I recall how incredibly smart you were. Never had to study. I crammed the night before! And we never missed a party! I'm so sad you are gone. I've never met Blake. (He was a toddler). But I know you are watching over him. God bless you. RIP.

Janine (1978) and I (1977) went to Kickapoo High School together in Springfield MO - she was a year behind me. Then as a grown up I got to work with her in the insurance business. When she started with RPS her office was within our office and we got to see her almost everyday before she moved the operation to Kansas City. She knew the insurance business and will be greatly missed. Hugs and Kisses to Blake

Janine was a childhood friend of mine from Nixa, Missouri. I spent a lot of time at her house. We would have so much fun! I can remember her mother would bake us cookies ( the slice and bake kind), I had never had those before. We would also roll our hair in those pink sponge rollers and sleep with then. In the morning our hair would look like Shirley Temple! Janine took tap dancing lessons and I would sometimes go with her and her mom to those lessons and watch. Afterwards she would let me try them on and dance around. My most treasured memory was when Janine let me wear her rabbit fur coat at recess time! I'm so saddened by the lost of a dear childhood friend. Prayers to her family.
