Jay Accashian, 45, of Denver, Colorado passed away peacefully Wednesday September 13, 2017 from pancreatic cancer at Denver Hospice. He was surrounded by his wife Kristin, family, and friends.
Jay was born January 17,1972, and was raised by Carmen and John Accashian in Newtown, Connecticut. He was the youngest of five children; Ken, Dave, Bruce, and Arleen. Jay Graduated from Newtown High School, played lacrosse and football, and always had a love for the outdoors - he was an outstanding fly fisherman. He attended the University of Connecticut, received a Bachelor and Masters Degree in Civil & Environmental Engineering, and went on to have a successful career as a Licensed Professional Engineer in Denver Colorado where he made his home.
Jay was full of life, gregarious, and had a special talent for bringing like-minded people together. He arranged annual family reunions in Weekapaug, Rhode Island and threw "Epic" Christmas parties where he hosted large groups of friends and family serving his signature Armenian string cheese and baked ham.
When diagnosed with pancreatic cancer on October 25, 2016, Jay and Kristin set out on adventures around the world. They enjoyed scuba diving, fly fishing, snowboarding, natural hot springs, trips to Winter Park, Colorado, and hiking to list a few. Over fifty family and friends gathered to celebrate Jay's birthday this past January in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. Jay felt "blessed" by the outpouring of love and support he received throughout his life from his family and friends.
Jay is survived by his wife Kristin Dohrn-Accashian of Denver, Colorado; mother Carmen Accashian of Newtown, Connecticut and his father John Accashian of Salem, New Hampshire; brother Ken of Seymour, Connecticut; brother and sister-in-law Dave and Teri Accashian of Pine, Colorado; brother and sister in law Bruce and Suzanne Accashian of McConnels, South Carolina; and sister and brother-in-law Arleen and Steve Medve of Kennebunk, Maine; and his many nieces and nephews.
Jay was an inspiration to his family and friends and the love of Kristin's life.

Although I'm unable to be there in person, I am in spirit. Jay was an incredible guy! I met him sitting at the Dive Bar on Ambergris Caye waiting on Kristin to return from her certification dive. We bonded immediately, but I don't suspect this was unique for Jay as he had such an infectious personality. The next day he & Kristin were on a Lion Fish hunt dive with me...a true adventure and one of a kind. I got to know Kristin quite well over the next few days relaxing in hammocks while Jay was flyfishing. We spent the rest of their vacation hanging out as I showed them around the island...they both became family to me. I was fortunate enough to meet up with them in Roatan in March 2017 and experience more wonderful conversations and make more great memories. It was destiny that we met and I feel blessed to hold Jay in my heart forever.
Sending all my love & God's comfort to Kristin, Jay's entire family & friends.
