PLYMALE, Major Jay Camden (USAF retiree), age 81, passed away peacefully on April 24, 2013 in Brentwood, TN. Major Plymale was born in Huntington, WV on January 14, 1932 to the late Camden and Marie Plymale. He graduated from Huntington East High where he played varsity sports including baseball for the 1949 state champions. He later attended Marshall University where he pitched for the Thundering Herd baseball team. PLYMALE, Major Jay Camden (USAF retiree), age 81, passed away peacefully on April 24, 2013 in Brentwood, TN. Major Plymale was born in Huntington, WV on January 14, 1932 to the late Camden and Marie Plymale. He graduated from Huntington East High where he played varsity sports including baseball for the 1949 state champions. He later attended Marshall University where he pitched for the Thundering Herd baseball team. Major Plymale entered the Air Force in 1951 as a Private and graduated from the Aviation Cadet Program as a 2nd Lt. in 1953. He served in Korea and later flew more than 150 Ac-130 Gunship Missions in the Vietnam War, earning 2 distinguished Flying Crosses and 13 Air Medals. During a 26 year career, Major Plymale logged 14,000 flying hours while visiting more than 80 countries, many directly supporting the President of the United States. He flew 50 missions into the eyes of typhoons as a member of the 54th Weather Squadron on Guam. Altogether he received some 30 military decorations.

Major Plymale had previously been an artist for the Atlanta Journal Newspapers. After retiring from the Air Force, he earned a Master’s degree in education from the University of Georgia and taught special education for 10 years in the public school systems of Texas and Louisiana.

He is survived by six children; sons Jon, Jeff, Jim and Joe and daughters, Joanie and Jayne; 12 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild; siblings, Robert Plymale and Mary Jo Moore.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at one o'clock in the afternoon on Saturday, the 27th of April, 2013 at Brentwood Roesch-Patton Funeral Home with visitation following the service.

A Celebration of Life Service will also be held in Huntington, WV in chapel of Woodmere-Ridgelawn Memorial Park, 2701 Washington Blvd., Huntington, WV 25705 at three o’clock in the afternoon on Sunday, the 28th of April, 2013 with visitation held one hour prior to the service. Interment to follow in Woodmere-Ridgelawn Memorial Park.
