Jean Harold Montague Gordon, 85, of Amherst, died, Saturday, August 9, 2014, at Lynchburg General Hospital. She was the wife of John Newton Gordon, Jr. Born November 1, 1928, in Durham, NC, she was the daughter of the late James Harold Montague and the late Thelma Seay Montague and was also preceded in death by a sister, Lois Coleman and a brother, James Montague. Harold was a graduate of E.C. Glass High School and Lynchburg College. She was a retired school teacher, where she taught briefly at E.C. Jean Harold Montague Gordon, 85, of Amherst, died, Saturday, August 9, 2014, at Lynchburg General Hospital. She was the wife of John Newton Gordon, Jr.

Born November 1, 1928, in Durham, NC, she was the daughter of the late James Harold Montague and the late Thelma Seay Montague and was also preceded in death by a sister, Lois Coleman and a brother, James Montague. Harold was a graduate of E.C. Glass High School and Lynchburg College. She was a retired school teacher, where she taught briefly at E.C. Glass in Lynchburg, Newport News, Lynchburg Christian Academy, and Amherst County Public Schools. She attended Rivermont Evangelical Presbyterian Church.

In addition to her husband, Harold is survived by her three sons, Newton Gordon, III and his wife Gwen and James Gordon and his wife Toni, all from Amherst, and Tim Gordon and his wife Tyger of Agricola; eight grandchildren, John Gordon, IV, Elizabeth Hurt, Dan Short, Ian Gordon, Duncan Gordon, Timothy Gordon, Jr., Peyton Gordon, and Christian Gordon; one great-granddaughter, McKinley Hurt, and her beloved niece Ashby Coleman as well as other nieces and nephews.

A private graveside service will be conducted at the Gordon Family Farm Cemetery in Amherst County with Pastor Brett Eubank officiating.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, August 13, 2014 at Rivermont Evangelical Presbyterian Church with Pastor Brett Eubank officiating.

There will be no scheduled visitation hours at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Patrick Henry Boys Home.
