On January 24, 2014 Jean Lorraine Abbott, 83, of Keene, N.H. passed away peacefully in her sleep surrounded by her loved ones at Langdon Place. She was born in Keene, NH on June 10, 1930. She was the daughter of Lucian and Dorothy Arseneault and she lived in Keene for most of her life.

During her long residency in Keene, she was busy living life to the fullest, raising her children and working at MPB and then in the service industry for many years at the Ellis Hotel, the Keene Tiki and the Hungry Lion Restaurant. Most importantly Jean loved children and worked as a nanny for several families in Keene. These children remained in touch and know the difference she made in their lives and vice versa. Jean worked at the Keene Head Start program. She especially loved working with children who had difficulties. She gravitated to them and they to her. Many family and friends have memories of her positive attitude, ready advice, and wonderful, unforgettable sense of humor.

Jean loved to hand sew and designed and made clothes throughout her life. She also made many beautiful quilts and dolls. She enjoyed extended shopping trips and getting lost with family and friends. Jean was very social, and she loved hosting gatherings for friends and family on Meadow Road, and at the annual family reunion at Keene State College. Jean will be forever remembered as the heart and soul of her family.

She is survived and forever loved by many including her siblings: Dale, Jack, and Sidney Arseneault, Martha Wentworth; her children: Kathy Abbott, Steve Abbott and Todd Abbott; daughters-in-law Ellen Abbott and Mary Nicholas, son-in-law David Haaren, and her five grandchildren: Tara Abbott, Matthew Abbott, Nathan Abbott, Kara Abbott, Kristina Abbott and three great grand children: Anthony, and Nicholas Maiella and Kasen Abbott.

Our family extends a very special thank-you to her caregivers for all their loving care during the last part of her life.

She will be greatly missed. There will be a celebration of her life and Memorial service in the spring for family and friends.

Fletcher Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 33 Marlboro St., Keene, NH is assisting with the arrangements.
