Jean Bagg, 80, long-time Norwich resident, passed away Thurs., April 19, 2012, in the Chenango Memorial Hospital. Born in Cortland in June of 1931, Jean was the daughter of William E. and Gertrude Swertfager Lemley. While growing up in Norwich, she attended and graduated from Norwich High School with the class of 1950. Jean worked as an account clerk for the Norwich Pharmacal Company and its successors for many years. She was an enthusiastic person who was well known locally as a caterer and baker of quality cakes for all occasions. Jean Bagg, 80, long-time Norwich resident, passed away Thurs., April 19, 2012, in the Chenango Memorial Hospital.
Born in Cortland in June of 1931, Jean was the daughter of William E. and Gertrude Swertfager Lemley. While growing up in Norwich, she attended and graduated from Norwich High School with the class of 1950. Jean worked as an account clerk for the Norwich Pharmacal Company and its successors for many years. She was an enthusiastic person who was well known locally as a caterer and baker of quality cakes for all occasions. For 60 years, Jean was a dedicated member of the Order of the Eastern Star, specifically the Trinity Star Chapter 367. She was a past Matron of the group, had held many different offices throughout her years, and at one time was the Rep of the State of Louisiana.
Jean is survived by her son, Allen James "Jim" Bagg, Jr. and wife Dawn Lover of Canastota, and her grandchildren: Adrian Riley and husband Brian of Corning, Arielle Ann Bagg Demuth and husband Carl of Oxford, and Amy Bagg and fiance Nick Robinson of Oxford. Also surviving are Jean's great grandchildren, Nivayah and Meria Demuth, and her former husband, Allen Bagg of Norwich.
Funeral services for Jean will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Fri. from the R. J. Fahy Funeral Home. The Rev. David Spiegel, Pastor of the First Baptist Church of Norwich, will officiate. Interment will follow in Mt. Hope Cemetery. Friends are invited to call at the R. J. Fahy Funeral Home on Friday from 11:30 a.m. until the 1:00 service.
Members of the Order of the Eastern Star will perform a memorial service at 12:45 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home, prior to the start of the funeral.
