Jean Marie Bechill, age 84, of Milton Township went to be with the Lord on Sunday, August 21, 2011 at Munson Medical Center. She was born December 19, 1926 in Chicago to William and Lillian (Du Bravec) Kafka. Jean graduated from Longwood Academy High School in Beverly Hills, IL in 1944.
On September 27, 1947 Jean married the love of her life William A. Bechill Jr. at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Evergreen Park, IL. Jean worked for the Army Air Corp Material Command during WWII as a secretary.
She and her husband built every home they ever lived in, making Jean very capable of most carpentry work. She was never afraid to get her hands dirty or to sweat a little to make their house a home. Jean was a member of Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church in Elk Rapids where she dedicated much of her time helping with the funeral luncheon committee and the Altar Society. She was also very involved in volunteering at the Meadowbrook Nursing Home in Bellaire.
She was very artistic and would express that creativity through her crafts, her cooking and baking. Jean enjoyed gardening, sewing and making crafts especially Christmas ornaments. The most important thing in Jean's life was her family. She loved to tell stories and give updates on how her children and great grandchildren were doing. After 45 years of marriage, Bill and Jean renewed their vows at Old Saint Mary's in Greek Town in Detroit.
Jean will be greatly missed by her loving husband of almost 64 years William Bechill Jr.; 5 children: William (Cynthia) Bechill III, Richard (Rosie) Bechill Sr., Catherine (Brian) Shaw, Elizabeth (Dan) Nagy, and Jeannie (Steve) Fowler; 14 grandchildren: Suzanne (Aaron) Hickman, Lynn (Brian) Dujardin, Shannon Maxson, Erin Bechill, William (Laura) Bechill IV, Tina (Zeke) Pihaylic, Richard (Erica) Bechill, Carrie Bechill, Rev. David Bechill, Sarah, Andrea, and Laura Nagy, Ashley and Michael Fowler; 11 Great grandchildren: Kyle, Brandon, Andrew, Kaitlin, Lauren, Adam, Kyleigh, Alaina, Isabella, Olivia, Zahra, and baby girl (to be named Elizabeth Jean) due in October.
Besides her parents, Jean was preceded in death by her brother William Kafka Jr. and Sister-in-law Carol Kafka-Cummings.
A Mass from the Order of Christian Funerals will be held Saturday, September 24, 2011 at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church, Elk Rapids, MI at 11 a.m., Rev. David Bechill, presiding.
Burial will take place at S. Milton Twp. Cemetery.
