Jean Sloan Broadwater, 90 of Waynesburg, formerly of Mather, died Thursday, August 30, 2012 in the Golden Living Center, Waynesburg. She was born April 18, 1922 in Fayette City, a daughter of the late Daniel R. and Viola Reynolds Sloan. Mrs. Broadwater was a 1941 graduate of Jefferson High School. She was a former house parent at the Milton Hershey School in Hershey. She was co-owner of the J & R Corner Store in Mather for several years. Jean Sloan Broadwater, 90 of Waynesburg, formerly of Mather, died Thursday, August 30, 2012 in the Golden Living Center, Waynesburg.
She was born April 18, 1922 in Fayette City, a daughter of the late Daniel R. and Viola Reynolds Sloan.
Mrs. Broadwater was a 1941 graduate of Jefferson High School.
She was a former house parent at the Milton Hershey School in Hershey. She was co-owner of the J & R Corner Store in Mather for several years. She was a former member of the Order of Eastern Star, Emerald Chapter, Waynesburg. She volunteered for many years at the Rolling Meadows Nursing Home. She was a member of the Jefferson Senior Citizens Center, where she had many wonderful friends.
She was a member of the Jefferson United Methodist Church for over 57 years, and at one time had been a trustee and served on many committees.
On November 8, 1941 she married Charles Broadwater, who died November 4, 1987.
Surviving are a daughter, Ruth Ann Cowell and her husband Don of Waynesburg, where she had made her home; four grandsons, Gregory Cowell (Karen) of Zelienople, Scott Cowell (Michelle) of Zelienople, Kent Broadwater of McKees Rocks and Ryan Broadwater (Nicole) of Moorestown, NJ; six great grandchildren, Zachary, Alexandra, Seth and Tess Cowell, and Benjamin and Madeline Broadwater.
Deceased in addition to her husband are a son and daughter-in-law, C. Daniel and Mary Lou Broadwater.
Friends will be received from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., the hour of services on Tuesday, September 4, 2012 in the Behm Funeral Homes, Inc., 1477 Jefferson Road, Jefferson, Gregory P. Rohanna, supervisor, with the Rev. John R. Dorean and Rev. Richard E. Bowser officiating. Interment will follow in Greene County Memorial Park, Waynesburg. In lieu of flowers the family suggest memorial to the Jefferson United Methodist Church, 127 Washington St., Jefferson, PA 15344. Condolences may be expressed online at www.behm-funeralhomes.com.
