Jean Brody, born Barbara Jean Wilbar November 14, 1930, died peacefully at home in Trinidad, CA with her family at her side on January 12, 2011.

She is survived by: her two sons, David Brody and Matthew Brody; her granddaughter Sierra Brody; her niece Jan Radford-Harris; her former husband Gerald Brody, and her cousin Darryl Blackburn.

Jean published four novels, two nature books, and numerous articles. She was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma, but spent most of her adult years in California.

With her love of animals, and her deep concern for human rights, Jean spent many years actively involved in such causes - from volunteering as a docent at the Los Angeles Zoo to participating in peaceful protests against the Viet Nam War.

There will be no memorial service for Jean as she disliked being fussed over. Instead of sending flowers, the family requests mourners to make contributions in Jean's name to animal rights or humanitarian charities. Also, a permanent website will be created at www.paulschapel.com. Find her name under the list of obituaries. There will be pictures of her life and the opportunity for her friends to write about their feelings and memories.

Author and mother, Jean Brody, died at the age of 80 from pneumonia on January 12, 2011, at her home in Trinidad, California. She had spent three futile weeks in the hospital losing air, strength and the will to go on. Her family members were with her at the end.

She loved life, books, knowledge, reading, writing, animals, peace and other social causes, and loving long term loving friends. She wrote four novels about these topics, of which three were published, plus many articles and several non-fiction books.

She was also beloved and loving to her small family consisting of two sons, one granddaughter, one niece, and some ex-relatives still considered part of the family.

She enjoyed an active, productive and adventurous life until the demise in 2006 of her Cambria Book Company, which crushed her spirit (crushed by the big book stores and websites) and she began having serious medical and surgical problems shortly thereafter.

She will be sorely missed by all those whose lives she touched.
