Funeral services for Jean E. Wells, age 79 of County Route 15; Heuvelton will be held on Saturday (March 21, 2015) at 1:00pm at the Fox & Murray Funeral Home with Rev. Walter Smith officiating. Burial will be in the spring at White Church Cemetery in Lisbon.
Calling hours will be held also on Saturday from 11:00am until the time of the funeral. Mrs. Wells passed away on Sunday March 15, 2015) at Claxton Hepburn Medical Center with her husband by her side.
Surviving is her husband Cecil; a brother Jay Fifield & his companion Kathy Whiteford of Canton; two sisters Beverly Bullis and Shirley Briggs both of Canton; four grandchildren Heath Ferguson & his wife Liz of Florida, Lisa Wells and John Wells both of Burlington VT and Heather Ferguson of Massachusettes; five great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews & cousins.
She was predeceased by her son Robert Wells; three brothers Brayton, Howard Jr. & Lloyd Fifield and a sister Betty Jean Fifield.
Jean was born on May 18, 1935 in Hermon, NY a daughter of the late Howard & Mabel (Blackmere) Fifield. She attended Russell and Canton Schools for her education, and later married Cecil N. Wells on June 6, 1952 at the Russell Methodist Church with Rev. Lawrence Heatherington officiating.
She worked at Model Steam Laundry, St. Lawrence University and A. Barton Hepburn Hospital during her career. Soon after the couple's marriage, they owned and operated a farm in Rensselaer Falls for 13 years and then moved to Ogdensburg and later Heuvelton in 1978 where they remained.
Jean enjoyed riding horses, her poodle dogs, reading, bird watching and spending time with her family. Memorial contributions can be made to the Heuvelton Volunteer Rescue Squad, 95 State Street, Heuvelton, NY 13654. Condolences can also be shared online at www.foxandmurrayfuneralhome.com.

We were sorry to hear about Jean's passing. We only met Jean once when we stopped by to copy pictures of Cecil's grandfather, Cecil Chambers. Jean was a very nice lady, and we had a good conversation with her and Cecil. Jim is Cecil's second cousin once removed.
