Jeanette Holmquist Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 7, 2013.

Jeanette "Jenny" Holmquist was born in Crab Orchard, Tennessee on November 25, 1944 to Dennis and Edith Scott. She was the second oldest of nine children. She met her husband, Philip Holmquist, while attending a local church through mutual friends. Jenny and Phil wed in Crossville, Tennessee on September 28, 1960. Jenny's fondest memory of her wedding day was eating hamburgers at a local café, which was a treat for her.

Jenny and Phil came to California in May of 1961 to settle down, where she soon began to work at AT&T with her mother-in-law. Jenny gave birth to their only son, Scott, in June of 1962, graduated from San Gabriel High School in 1965, and purchased her first home with her husband in 1972 in San Gabriel, Ca.

Jenny spent 37 years with AT&T until she retired in 1998 when her branch closed. In 1999, Jenny & Phil moved to San Dimas, Ca. In 2000, Jenny went back to work at Bearly Stitchin Sewing Center in Pasadena, Ca. She worked there until re-retiring in 2007.

Jenny was known for her beautiful, handcrafted quilts and handmade items, ranging from purses and aprons to jewelry and clothing. She had a wide array of hobbies through the years such as bowling with Phil and Scotty, collecting ornate barbies, watching her Dodgers, reading lengthy novels, learning the latest technologies, and traveling our beautiful country.

Jenny is survived by her loving husband, Philip; son Scott and his wife Nina; granddaughter Nicole Carmona and her husband David; granddaughter Lauren Barbosa and her husband Kevin; great-granddaughter Ophelia; brothers Roy, John, and Tom; sisters Jane, Evlin, and Dottie. Jenny was preceded in death by her parents, Dennis and Edith Scott; brother Starling and sister Deloris.

It has taken me a long time to find the words to express my feelings at the loss of Jenny. It is like there is an empty place in the world and in my heart. I cherish the good times we had together. I will always love and miss you and when I piece a quilt on the sewing machine you gave me I will feel sad but I will smile.

Aunt jenny you were my "go to person" when I had trouble understanding things that made life hurt. You could bring understanding and healing and yet share how easy and simple it was to change it!! It was always an inside job of showing unconditional love, forgiveness, hope, kindness, and an open heart!!! You never shut anyone out or gave up hope. You fought till the end with grace and strength!! You made sure others were ok before you!!! Yet stood firm with eloquence!!! I will miss you deeply and hope I can pass on all your beliefs of love and family!!! Thank you for being there for me and my kids and always being proud of their accomplishments!!! Your loving niece Diana xxxxooooo

Dear Jenny, you were a good Mother-in-Law to me. You gave good advice and then let us figure it out. You had a great big generous heart and would give anyone who asked the shirt off your back. I couldn't have asked for a better Grandma for my girls. You loved them so much and they loved you so much too. Thank you for being such a loving presence in their lives. Your son Scott is a good kind man too. You did a good job here Jenny. I will always remember you and keep close to my heart the good memories we made through the years. Don't worry about your Philip, we've got him and will take good loving care of him. Godspeed Jenny, may you bask in God's love until we see you again.

My thoughts, prayers, and deepest sympathy to the entire family. I had the pleasure of knowing Jenny, but only for a brief time. I would see her at family gatherings, as my daughter-in-law Nikki is her granddaughter. Jenny was always warm, easy to talk with, and friendly. She will be missed.

Aunt Jenny,
It seems very surreal to have you gone. I love you so much and i cant believe how much i am going to miss you. You never complained, you never let us fuss over you, you never got angry. Your courage and bravery over the last few years was always inspiring. You told me once that i could do anything as long as i did not listen to any one else telling me i couldn't. I promise that I always will. Im so grateful and blessed to have had you in my life and even more blessed at what a part you have played in my mother's life. You have done more for her than you could possibly imagine. Im so happy you are not suffering anymore. I know I will see you again. I love you.

This woman was the best grandmother a girl could ever wish for. She was a compassionate, humble, and beautiful human who had nothing but love for everyone around her. I will be lucky if I could even become a fraction of the woman she was. I love you forever, Gramma.
