Jeanette Newton Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 21, 2011.

Jeanette Louise (Elliott) Newton was born on June 27, 1930 in Los Angeles. However she lived most of her early life in Joplin MO, the town she always considered home.

She graduated from Joplin High School, where she was a member of the orchestra, first chair violin. She attended the University of Oklahoma for 2 years, where she met Howard Newton. Howard and Jeanette married on April 12, 1952.

They moved to Wichita KS, where their first daughter, Sharon (Bennett) was born. Daughters Terri (Newton) and Debbie (Hurlbut) were born in their next hometown, Ardmore OK. The youngest of their four daughters, Linda (Fowler) was born in Roswell NM.

Jeanette and Howard finally settled in The Woodlands TX in 1975, where they lived the rest of their lives.

Jeanette passed away on Dec 20, 2011. She was preceded in death by her husband Howard, her parents Oscar and Velma Elliott, and her brother Oscar Elliott Jr of Joplin MO. She is survived by her four daughters, her sister Mary Ann Brown of Brazil IN, her granddaughter Samantha Hurlbut, and her grandson Nicholas Fowler.

All who were fortunate enough to have Jeanette in their lives regarded her as either the best mother, wife, sister, grandma or friend that it was possible to have. She had a sense of humor and mischief that charmed everyone. She loved to laugh and kid, to visit her favorite places and people. Jeanette always gave much more than she received, and that's the way she wanted it. Her passing is an incomparable loss to us all.

Memorial services will be held on Friday December 23, 2011 at 2:00, in Chapel of Forest Park The Woodlands Funeral Home.

Terri -I am so, so sorry you lost your mother. I was unaware of the loss of your father, too. Know I am thinking of you, and sending many prayers to you and your sisters. Much care, Renee Freeland

Since I was not able to say this at the Memorial Service, I am going to say it here, about my Mother.

She was really a neat person. She loved to laugh, and she was fun to be around. If there was a party or group, she was in the fun part of it. She could and would talk to anyone - friends, family and strangers who quickly became friends. She was musical, and artistic. She was always up for a trip somewhere, anywhere.

I liked these things about my mother a lot. These were the parts of her that I hope are also in me. But she was a lot of other things as well, that I cannot ever be, or measure up to.

From my perspective as one of her 4 daughters:
She had shoulders broad enough for all of us to cry on
She had a ready ear for all of our troubles, victories, stories, and jokes
She had the bank account we could access if we needed
She gave the advice we never asked for, as well as the advice we did
She had arms wide enough to hold all of us close to her and to each other
She especially had a heart great enough to love us all, every day, no matter what

We cannot yet imagine how to keep going without her, but we have promised that we would, and that we will be there for each other. And we always keep our promises to Mom.

Linda, I am so sorry for your loss! I know how much you loved your mother. I know you will miss her but you will always have her in your heart. Nothing will ever change that. Live your life happy and healthy as a tribute to your beautiful mom. I hope you can feel my hug! Telisha
