Jeffrey Clyde Hunter died on July 3, 2014, at his home in Houston at the age of 44. He was born on December 15, 1969, in Pasadena to Carolyn Mayer Hunter and Benjamin Howard Hunter. Jeff lived in various towns and cities, including Elton, Hathaway, and Shreveport, Louisiana, and Houston, Pasadena, Pearland, San Marcos, and Spring, Texas. He graduated from Spring High School in 1988, Southwest Texas State University in 1993, and the University of Houston Law Center in 1998. He worked at Jones McClure Publishing in Houston for over 16 years as a legal editor. Jeff enjoyed many diverse passions and interests-too many to mention them all. Here are some of the most noteworthy:
• Dogs-especially his beloved Arrow (RIP), plus Kahlua and Roscoe, both of whom he provided for in his will.
• Music-local music in particular (he founded Montrose Rock Revel and hosted an Internet radio show), but also classic rock bands
like Led Zeppelin and Van Halen.
• Art and writing-drawing and painting at his studio, and journaling and blogging on various topics.
• Cycling-he donated his automobile and biked nearly everywhere he went for the past two years.
• Recycling-both large-scale (participating in citywide green initiatives) and small (carrying empty glass bottles from restaurants
to recycling bins).
• Movies-especially "The Big Lebowski"; Jeff attended several Lebowski Fests and even recently met the Dude himself, Jeff Bridges.
• Poker-his favorite hand was 4-7 offsuit.
• Numerology-he celebrated unique days like 12/12/12.
• Mountain climbing-in recent years he ascended Colorado's Mount Yale twice, and he wants his ashes spread there along
with Arrow's.
Jeff was active in the community, supporting and participating in a wide range of charitable organizations and public initiatives, including city cycling and public transportation, dog rescue, environmentalism, homeless shelters, and local art, music, and radio.
No cause was too small for Jeff's time, energy, and enthusiasm.
Jeff is survived by his parents, Carolyn and Benjamin; his brother, William Scott Hunter, of Los Angeles, California; his aunt,
Jeanne Mayer Jerding, and her husband and family, of Casper, Wyoming; his uncle, William G. Mayer, of Bossier City, Louisiana;
and his uncle, Carl G. Mayer, and his wife and family, of Haughton, Louisiana.
A life celebration will take place at Rudyard's British Pub on Saturday, July 12, starting at 3:00 p.m. A tribute concert (affectionately dubbed Jeff Fest) will take place at Avant Garden on Friday, July 25, starting at 5:00 p.m.
Instead of flowers, please donate to any of the following organizations: Crisis Intervention of Houston, Inc. (suicide prevention
and counseling); Bike Houston (city cycling initiative); Local Live Houston (online community radio); or your favorite Houston hound rescue group.
Jeff will be forever remembered and dearly missed by family, friends, and the community. Rest in peace, Jeff. The Dude abides.
